Does anyone have a good idea on how to link the info on an individual to an existing document (eg in html). Here is an example. I have an obituary in word (which I can convert to html) which I would like to be accessed via a hyperlink either from the summary of information on the individual or from the tree. OK I can do it from the tree using the external hyperlink but this stops me linking that individual to another tree. I guess I'm looking for a way to put a hyperlink in the comments. I could just put the obituary in the comments but it loses all the formatting. I would be grateful if anyone else has a solution - or if not then maybe this could be something to add to the wish list.

At the moment, GenoPro has limited features for linking to external documents.  Eventually, GenoPro will support attachments, similar as the pictures, so you can link to any external file from your disk or the web.

The label will be eventually improved to support hyperlinks, so you can create a link to jump to another section of the tree or to an external document.

I solved the problem of photos in my family tree on this site by linking to the photos on my web site which saves space for Dan.

That's very nice of you Iain.  You are welcome to store all the photos of your family tree on our webiste http://familytrees.genopro.com/.  We have over 150 GB of unused web storage.

Thanks for the offer Dan, but the full tree on my web site with photos is over 150 Mo including all the private trees with living details and I think that there will be a lot of people wanting space.

It is no problem for me as I have about 20 private trees plus the main ancestor one which all use the same picture file on my site so avoiding duplication of shared photos, some of which are quite large, in each tree.

Anyway I have already adapted the skins for this.:P

With 150 GB, we can host one thousand trees of 150 MB.  If we run out of space, we will purchase additional hardware or restrict this service to paid customers.  We are confident the hosting of genealogy pages on our server will bring us extra visitors and will bring additional sales of GenoPro .

How about using a social relationship link to a dummy individual, set the 'make label'  flag and suppress gender symbol and then create hyperlink from this dummy individual to the Word  document. i.e.

Under these circumstances I will prepare a complete tree without the living (which has grown conciderably since my web site update at Christmas) to replace the one I have there now, though I will continue with the photo link as I use it for my web site private trees which will stay where they are.

I have tried the Privacy filter with success, but I will need to change the "had to has" on my page as, in order to include myself though "living", I had to count myself as dead for the report generator!

I haven't yet found how one changes things on your site ie open the source like with FTP.

Thanks for your help - I'm delighted that it's in the plan to improve the linking facilities in the future - I think tihs is an important feature which lots of people will want. For now I'll just be patient and use the great suggestion of linking ot a dummy person called "click here". Thanks again.
