Hello

I've looked in this forum for hours trying to find the answer to my simple question without any luck.

In V2b15h how do I insert a name followed in brackets by the same name in a different language?

eg. Frank (Hebrew or Russian equiv)

I have the preferences in Arial with Hebrew and Russian ticked, as al ot of others are also ticked. If I go down the page and double click on Hebrew, the whole family tree changes. I don't want that. Just one or a few names.

Must be simple since no one has asked before.

Thanks

Frank1

Yes it is simple. Input the name into the "Second Last Name", it will come in brackets in the display.

I knew it would be simple, but not that simple, thanks.

I don't need it after the surname (but then I might in the future), I need it after the first name. I am happy to type in the name in brackets. That is not the problem.

The problem is that I need the name in brackets to be in a different language.

Thanks

The problem is that I need the name in brackets to be in a different language.

You can do this fairly easily for a few names, but I don't know of a simple way to do the input if you want to do it for a large number of names:

  1. Ensure you are using a font which supports the Unicode values you want to input - see File-->Properties-->Font
  2. Make sure NumLock on the keyboard is On
  3. Look up the decimal code of the character you want to input - there is a good source here (use 'next block>>' for further code pages)
  4. Select the point at which you wish to input the character
  5. Input the character by holding down the Alt key and typing the decimal code of the character on the keypad
  6. Release the Alt key and the character should be input into GenoPro
  7. Repeat for further characters

You can see why you wouldn't want to do this too often

Hi

Thank you for the help.

I can follow that. Tried it and it works!

Now, on the properties page of a person, the foreign characters (in this case Hebrew) gets entered correctly - right to left (as Hebrew does), but then on the genomap the characters are shown in reverse order. As an English example, it would be 'abcd' in the properties but on the genomap 'dcba'. Of course it is only the Hebrew that is back to front.

Is this a GenoPro bug, or do I have to key the letters in back to front on the properties to get it the correct way around on the genomap?

Thanks

... eg. Frank (Hebrew or Russian equiv)

Try the following string under the 2nd given name:

HEB(Efrayim אפרים)=YID(Froim פרוים)=RUS(Fima)=GER(Frank or Froike or Wilfred)=FRE(Francoise)=ENG(Fredy)=ROM(Froiche)=a.s.o.

Yours,

Alfi

Hello,

I tried the string. As before, the Hebrew letters are correct in the properties window but the Hebrew letters are in reverse order on the genomap.

Also, the letters are in the correct order in the html reports. So the only place where the order is incorrect is on the genomap. So, I think that this is a bug.

Thanks

Is the order of the Hebrew letters (under my last message) O.K. ?

Alfi

I tried your string. It behaves the same as my own characters.

It is in the correct order on the properties page but the wrong order on the genogram.

Now for some interesting information. I installed the Hebrew Language under the Regional Settings of Windows XP. The characters were ALL O/K. Then I uninstalled the Hebrew Language and it is still o/k.

So, something in my machine has not uninstalled and I don't know what.

I tried your string on another machine I have, also running Windows XP without the Hebrew Language installed and behaves as my machine did before the Hebrew installation.

I can't ask all those looking at my html report to install the Hebrew Language to view my report. So the problem is still there.

My only short term solution is to NOT display the Hebrew in the genogram.

Thanks
