| Hi there all! I have been using GenoPro and read all wishes below. They are good! I want you to hear my wish too. My family leave too far from me and each other, so I have to travel to everyone. That is why I asking you to port you software to Pocket PC. It was my wish. And now I want to propose you a cooperation in translation of your software on Russian and Ukrainian languages. If you are interesting in it, I will ask you only one licence of your software (for PC and PocketPC). It will be enough payment for my job. Best wishes, ipadm

The other reason is Pocket PC offers little screen space. GenoPro needs a minimum of 640 by 480 pixels. I am not familiar with software development on Pocket PC, however GenoPro uses basic Win32 APIs. If your Pocket PC can run the latest GenoPro if it supports the APIs of Windows 95. Translation of GenoPro will be done in 2006. Everyone participating to the translation will get a free license and/or paid for their work.

As I see GenoPro is a windowed, and I can change the window on PC to 320*240. Some buttons are hide at that, but in PocketPC text menu will be enough. 3. Which programming language used in GenoPro project? Translation of GenoPro will be done in 2006. Everyone participating to the translation will get a free license and/or paid for their work. 1. Have I understand it as "Ok, we take you to team!" or as "No, we don't need your service!" 2. "paid" - ? How much? If I will translate to two languages, can I have free license and paid for work on second language?

Regarding the translation issue:
I suggest to hold on and wait for the release of 2.0. It has been delayed and delayed, for good reasons, and plenty of stuff has changed and will change before the final release so it will be a mess if translating is done before Dan has everything the way it should be. Plus, he has said he will make the first (french) translation himself in order to see how what is the most appropriate way to carry out the task.
I myself am anxious to begin with the finnish translation but I'm sure it is best to give Dan time to 1st finish version 2.0, and 2nd, make a translation "motif". The system which he's about to implement must be something that makes translation of further versions easy enough and not to start completely for start every time! And the same goes to Report Generator.
I think there are a lot of people that are interested in translating this great software into various languages. I think we should, before the translating work begins, form teams for each language, and dedicate a subforum with a topic for each language. Work can be done co-operatively.
I don't know if it's a good time or place to discuss money anyway... maybe you should pm him?

Dan, BTW, translations of the main website (at least for the essential parts) would certainly be nice after the release of 2.0 or whenever you're done with it.

The translation of GenoPro will be XML-based, similar to the language dictionary of the report generator. Once GenoPro has been translated in the French language, translating to other languages will require only a few hours of work, maybe a full day.

Truly, I don't wait any real money regards. I don't believe that it is possible at all. I touch this theme only because of GenoProSupport words. ;)

| Dear ipadm, maybe my English is not good enough, but your sentences seems quite impatient (sometimes offensive). If you are looking into other topics you can easily find out, that the 1st priority is to release the long waiting 2.0. To reach this goal even the privacy filtering was decided to move after the release of 2.0. It is simply due to the structured way, how Dan would like to really market his product. To summarise the translation issues, my understanding is: 1. first v2.0 2. then an official French translation (and maybe some 2.x patches, if something will be found during the translation) 3. offer a tool or procedure or whatever for everyone, who would like to make translation And this is forecasted for around April-May 2006 (if v2 will be out in March-April...) Keep smiling

| Thanks for your reply fbukolyi. One of the reason version 2.0 has to come out is to reduce the email support. For instance, over 90% of all downloads are still GenoPro 1.99b. Many people do write emails for questions and suggestions (eg: genogram) and not aware of the beta, or not trusting the beta. I understand them because I am very cautious before installing anything "beta" on my machine. People spend hours of work on their genealogy tree and the idea of possible data loss is enough to scare them. Another reason is the academic program for students and professors to use GenoPro at no cost for an entire term. Guess what? Some students use GenoPro 1.x, some use 2.b14x and others use 2.b15x. Well, the professor must install all 3 versions of GenoPro in order to open the .gno files submitted by his/her students. This is not the way to go. Also, most of those students are studying therapy, psychology or nursing - they are not as computer literate as people participating to this forum. Any upgrade is always a big issue to them. The road for GenoPro 2.0 has been a long marathon. Its release will mark a new milestone, that's all. I will keep working and improving the product as I did before. I am not going away
