Don't ask me how it happened, but GenoPro seems to have "assigned" multiple marriages to individual "unions" -- in one case there is a union in the union table with 57 assigned marriages (from completely unrelated families -- I don't even understand what this could mean, logically). All those individual marriage dates have been replaced with the same date. I cannot figure out how to "unassign" these marriages and give them back their proper dates.

rdr713 (4/2/2006) Don't ask me how it happened, but GenoPro seems to have "assigned" multiple marriages to individual "unions"...But we still need to ask ;) Did you import GEDCOM file and this is how GenoPro opened it? Did you try to use the Auto Arrange? Was the file OK in some point in time and then got mixed up?

Actually I just did an experiment and did a fresh import of a GEDCOM into GenoPro beta. The GEDCOM contained 2536 individuals and 958 marriages. The new GenoPro file contains 2536 individuals, 958 "families," and 326 "unions." The unions have between 1 and 49 "dependents/assigned to", whatever that means. In other words, this fresh file displays the same type of mess that my old file does.
I've been avoiding the question of what the logical difference between a "family" and a "union" is, but maybe I have to ask it now?

rdr713 (4/3/2006) Actually I just did an experiment and did a fresh import of a GEDCOM into GenoPro beta. The GEDCOM contained 2536 individuals and 958 marriages. The new GenoPro file contains 2536 individuals, 958 "families," and 326 "unions." The unions have between 1 and 49 "dependents/assigned to", whatever that means. In other words, this fresh file displays the same type of mess that my old file does.I have done a test import from two of my Gedcom files and found each union had only one "dependents/assigned to". I believe GenoPro will use the same union record when all the data is the same e.g. one or more marriages with the same date. To test this I changed one of my Gedcom records to have the same date, and yes on import the two records shared the same union record. However when I amended one of the records a new union was created with the amended data, reflecting the fact that the two unions were now different. The sharing of indentical unions appears to be a technique to save space and to save unnecessary duplication. I agree it is confusing because although the data may be the same the 'unions' are distinct unique events. But I still don't understand how you have so many couples sharing the same union and how marriage dates have been overwritten with the same date. Were there any errors logged during the import? If there were no errors to explain this I suggest you email a sample gedcom file and resulting .gno file to GenoPro support. I've been avoiding the question of what the logical difference between a "family" and a "union" is, but maybe I have to ask it now? A union is a separate record in the database from the family record because it is possible for a couple to be married, divorced and then remarry, or live together again, i.e. they can have more than one marriage/union. Union is a more general term than marriage and can represent any 'relationship' between a couple, including a same-sex relationship.

| Once you have set up a family, double click on the horizontal line linking them, open the "relation" drop down menu on the general tab and select one of the available option.
