I have clicked on export gedcom and made the destinatiom My documents. When I click on the icon in my documents there is a message  unable to read from storage etc

The storage header is invalid Genopro cannot continue because the data format is unknown.

Iwas hoping to export the gedcom to a relative to help him with his tree. If I cannot open the file presumably he will not be able to open it in his genealogy programme (family history 3)

Can anyone advise. I am hopeless at understanding this sort of thing. Its an age thing - I am 69 trying to be 39

Have you tried using GenoPro Beta?  The beta can open almost any .gno and .ged file.  In the worse case, the beta will give you a more descriptive message than the generic "storage error".

Thanks for suggestion . Cannot do this through beta as when you try it tells you to go to genopro as beta is being developed.

If you have bought a copy of GenoPro, then you can also use the Beta, which is much better. If you have a shareware version, you can still use the Beta - and help develop it if you find any problems or setbacks. Download the newest beta version from http://www.genopro.com/beta/; you will need to get a key to allow it to work fully but this is free, until version 2.0 is finally released. You do not need a new key if you have a full version of v.1

The good news is that the new version will open existing files and export them as gedcom. GenoPro ged files do contain all of the data to allow it to recreate the onscreen diagrams and other programs will not know about this and may report errors. This should not matter as the program will extract the data it needs

There are several lines on this Support site about the difference file structure of the two versions. Do not worry as GenoPro is designed to run both programs on the same machine and will save both v.1 & v.2 files automatically
