Since the concept of genealogy deals more with history rather than with the present (in our case, the latter being just the tip of the former), I think it would be better in the properties options for a member to have "Location" instead of "Contact", or at least in addition to "Contact".
What do I mean by "Location"? (or whatever else it may be called). I mean the places where the person has lived through their life, their place of residence. A list, similar to that for "Education" and "Occupation", in which information is entered for the country, city, address, kind of property, property status, dates, and whatever else. Personally, I have for some members of my extended family information about changing place (city, and sometimes country) of residence, and I feel it would be nice to be able to enter this info in a neat way, rather than entering it as a general comment. This is something I miss.

We all know that this product is not yet finished, but we know Dan is working on many topics, which as far as I know is to include events in the individual dialog box. I assume moving from one place to another belongs into this category. May be Dan can elaborate. :?:

| Just today I bumped into this problem, so I'm bumping this thread RESIDENCE/LOCATION is what I'm looking for. I know where someone is and I want to add a track how he/she moved from place to place... He moved from continent to the other following the love of his life, then to the third following job opportunities etc.. Doesn't have to be combined with Occupation, Education or anything else! It might include GPS data (not as a tracking signal but as a reference to location, lat/long of place (it even might be combined with "place" record))...

| i agree with other posters that location tracking would be a highly desirable feature although it may be a bit complex to model. each person should have a location relationship of one to many...however, the tough part is describing the attributes of a location. things which come to mind are country, state/province, county/district, township, town/city, street, zip code, etc. as well as duration such as start, stop....and if you really wanted to impress, it would be great to see this on a map....of course there is also the problem of shifting geography and political organization but i could live with those limits

168907 (6/3/2006) ..and if you really wanted to impress, it would be great to see this on a map....of course there is also the problem of shifting geography and political organization but i could live with those limitsGeographical location might be visually represented with hyperlink to programs as WorldWind or to Google maps, with simple reference to location... It was mentioned allready in http://support.genopro.com/Topic6135-58-1.aspx

| Dan, I was really looking forward to Beta 17, as I remembered we were going to get a set of residences of the person as part of this Beta, but I cannot find it. Here is what is needed: At a personal level (as well as a family level), the various residences of the individual/family. The reason this is important is that when trying to track down the family history, knowing where people lived can help find additional information about them. This is really crucial for researchers, and is absolutely vital. Please include this into Beta 17.

| GenoPro Beta 17 was released earlier so people can benefit from the hierarchical places, and sources & citations. The design and implementation for sources & citations in GenoPro is unique and I want feedback before releasing version 2.0. The occupancy will be in Beta 18. See http://www.genopro.com/beta/#todo

| Found in the drop-downlist of the source type "book". Since a source can be a book, then this book has an ISBN number, but no field to record this number. Besides the narrative phrase does not consider all the new fields we have seen now in Beta 17.

maru-san (7/7/2006) Since a source can be a book, then this book has an ISBN numberGreat suggestion. I will add a field for the ISBN number. the narrative phrase does not consider all the new fields we have seen now in Beta 17. I added the list of source types at the last minute, and forgot to update the report generator about this. To add the enumeration in the report, visit the Tag Definitions (Menu -> Tools -> Tag Definitions), select the Source / Citation tab, and double-click on the Source Type. The action of double-clicking will copy the enumeration in the clipboard as below. <SourceMediaType> <Audio T="Audio"/> <Book T="Book"/> <Card T="Card"/> <CD T="CD"/> <Deed T="Deed"/> <DVD T="DVD"/> <ElectronicFile T="Electronic File"/> <Email T="Email"/> <Fiche T="Fiche"/> <Film T="Film"/> <Interview T="Interview"/> <Magazine T="Magazine"/> <Manuscript T="Manuscript"/> <Map T="Map"/> <Newspaper T="Newspaper"/> <Photo T="Photo"/> <Tombstone T="Tombstone / Gravestone"/> <Video T="Video"/> <Web T="Website / URL"/> </SourceMediaType> |
