This seems to have been broken in one of the recent Beta 17 releases.
When the first release or two came out with hierarchical places, I could start typing the parent place in the drop down box and the list would begin auto-selecting places.
However, in later builds, this seems to have been broken. Now I have to scroll thru the entire list to find the parent place I want instead of being able to just start typing it in.

Now I have to scroll thru the entire list to find the parent place I want instead of being able to just start typing it in.Humm... you have found a bug. The parent place is a read-only combo however you should be able to type to select a parent object. I am working on a fix...

I fixed it. Just download Beta 17e again and you should be able to pick parent places and parent sources much easier.
