Hello.
Because I had a problem with my family due to lack of privacy, I wish to request to set up the default of report generator on Familytrees with password.
Initially I had no idea you could set a password from control panel, and I though it was just a backup only accessible from my computer. But it wasn't.
To avoid similar problems to others I suggest to implement such a default in the future.
Thanks.

| I would suggest something slightly different... Is it possible to place password dialog within report generator. So If anyone wants can easily place passworded report directly on web...
- "εν οιδα οτι ουδεν οιδα" (Σωκρατησ) - "The only thing that I know is that I don't know anything" (Socrates)

| We plan to improve the dialog for the Report Generator dialog to let the user to set a password before generating his/her report. We will think about having a password-protected report as the default behaviour. If you want to generate a private HTML report, you are welcome to generate it on your hard drive. You can setup a website to host your HTML files. Each time a report is uploaded at http://familytrees.genopro.com/, it takes bandwidth and hard disk space. We welcome those files to attract new visitors. A password-protected report is always hidden. This is the reason why this feature is available only to paid customers.

I know, and for that I am a paying customer. I liked the program and I paid for that.
But, although it is useful to publish genealogy on the net, there are some people that may not like it, and being hundred of members in a family tree it's impossible to ask everyone of them if they agree to be published on the net. That's all And, instead of congratulate with you (me in this case) for the good work about researching the family roots, they menace legal acts. Well, we say in my country: "the dirt clothes must be cleaned in the family"

The new privacy filter will be much better to address the the issue of privacy for living individuals. For instance, by default, all data of living individuals could be excluded from the report, except for some individuals such as yourself were you may to include extensive information. The privacy filter will be capable to retain information for group of individuals, such as families, where you know it is "safe" to publish some extra information such as their education and occupation.

Well, we say in my country: "the dirt clothes must be cleaned in the family" I had a few negative reactions at first several years ago, but over came this problem by systematically removing all the "living" from my main tree except for myself as compiler. I then created "private trees" to include the "living" which are protected by double password access with scrambled html access pages and different groups of passwords for each family group. If two families aren't speaking, I separate their trees and allocate different passwords. This seems to work as no one has complained since. This system needs javascript and special html entry pages which need to be uploaded and which is why I haven't yet posted these private trees on this site as it hasn't yet this possibility and they are already on my own web site.

I am listening to what is happening... When we will re-write the privacy filter, we will do our best to make this tool easy to use while addressing those issues, such as different reports for different families...
