Hi! I'm back! Here's my second post and second suggestion! Hooray for me!

Anyway, another feature I would like to see in the software is an automatic field for "Last Updated"... this field would automatically date/time stamp a record every time it is changed. I'm thinking if you edit the properties of a person, it gets date/time stamped. If I change a relationship, like a marriage or parent/child or something, each person attatched to the affected relationships gets date/time stamped.

I'm just thinking this would be useful for if I go off and focus on a particular branch of my tree for a while and neglect a chunk, I can say "Hey, this hasn't been touched in over a year, perhaps I should look for some more info on this" or something.

It's all good.

Great idea!
But why not creating a log file?
You can specify which actions you want GenoPro to record on the log file, and when you are doing it a line is entered to the log with the action details like: the person/marriage you just updated, the date stamp, the new detail, etc.
You can then use the log file as a research log (when you discovered new data), as a log like what CranMalReign asked to when you updated a person on your tree and so on.

Yah, a log file would probably work better. You wouldn't have to crowd the UI with the field not directly pertaining to the actual person, and you'd have a completely traceable history of updates.

And as I said you can use it as a research log to record your search as to when you got all kinds of information. You can trace an old information that you updated in case of mistakes.

Back to this Idea - all the good genealogy (and let say database) software has internal fields to store date/time when the record was modified last. I'm sure GenoPro has such datafield inside.

Dan do you plann to allow to make the "last date/time" public available? To sort by and read the field? That's quite important. If it is'n included in internal structure, don't you think it should ba added before final v2.0 ?

Thanks for the answer

Jan

A similar topic has been posted: Last modification date for object.

We plan to use the Source object to handle this issue.  We are still designing the architecture with respect to the Undo and other technical challenges.
