| I have an issue which has bothered me for a while, with the FIND dialog box. When I do a search by clicking on the binoculars icon, positioning the cursor in the TEXT INPUT FIELD and then start typing, the CURSOR follows the matching phrase in the drop-down, pick-list after about the third character and sometimes LANDS OUTSIDE the pick list which stops the characters from typing and instead starts invoking KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS. It happens mostly when I type fast and I find I need to watch the cursor while I am typing to avoid getting RANDOM OBJECTS planted on my genomap. It is usually the W, E, L and O characters, which I see are from the right-click menu when the cursor is over a blank genomap area... which then plants a New Male, New Female, New Text Label or a New Social Entity on the genomap. I am constantly having to delete these objects, which is an annoyance and a waste of time. I would appreciate some help on how I can avoid this problem.

| This is very strange... unless you click on the OK button, the Find dialog won't go away. All keyboard inputs will remain within the Find dialog. Are you saying you are capable to add individuals from the Find dialog? If so, can you give me a step-by-step instructions. Maybe you accidentally hit the Escape key while typing which closed the Find dialog, and further typing went to the main window which created new individuals to the family tree.

No, I am not hitting the ESC key... like I said, I open the FIND dialog box and start typing... for example, let's enter the name RALPH... type the letter R and a long pick list of previous entries starting with R opens up to the top (I have the dialog box positioned in the lower half of the screen, so the list uses the open space at the top)... then type A, and a picklist with all previous entries starting with RA opens up... this time to the bottom, since it is smaller (?). Then type L and bingo, the cursor has jumped out of the FIND box and onto the Genomap surface and a new TEXT LABEL ('L' shortcut) has just been placed on my genomap. It has to be typed fast, but at my normal speed it happens all the time... it has occurred HUNDREDS of times... I can't believe I'm the only one...

| I have never seen this before. You are using the Find dialog like this one? I am surpsised because this dialog lists only previously search text.

| Yes, that's the one... here are some snapshots as the letters are typed:

This one didn't 'jump' but I'll see if I can catch one... it's not easy to grab these depending on how the screen capture is set up.

| Here's one... I was typing in a search for Adam and on the third letter the cursor jumped onto the genomap workspace and created a line ('A' shortcut):

This seems to happen when the third letter is W, L, A, E and O... unless I type slowly. ;)

| I see what's going on, however I don't understand how this is happening. My guess is the the arrow that was created using the letter A. Therefore you typed the letter R, somehow the find dialog disappeared, and then you typed the letter A which created the arrow. Can you tell me what operating system (version of Windows) are you using? Do you have a special keyboard with some special keys mapping to some shortcuts? Are you using GenoPro on a notebook or a desktop?

| IBM Pentium III Laptop using external keyboard and monitor running windows xp, no special key mappings although I am using a Gyration Air Mouse (www.gyration.com) which uses GyroToolsPC. I am not having any similar problems with other programs. I'll examine the Air Mouse settings...

Thanks for the input. By the way, Beta 17f keeps only the last 20 search terms. The drop down list will be therefore shorter. Can you try using Beta 17f and see if you still get the problem? Of course, this is not a solution, but it will give me a few hints about what's going on. I am very puzzled on this...
