This godparents story seems a bit complicated to me.
I see this subject as follows:
1) in the godfather field (i'll only refer to godfather but godmother will be the same), provide a New option within the drop down list and enter your godfather as a new individual. But make this individual a bit special, i.e. a) auto tick his gender, b)move him to a new (if not existing otherwise create) genomaps called, say, "Invisible" and c) auto tick his box "Make Label".
2) make the godfather field (when seen on TL->Ind) a multiple entries field, i.e. similar to the siblings fields. This will allow the possibility to enter several godfathers.
3) during the report gene process, make the "Invisible" Genomaps totally ignored. The godfather name(s) will only be shown in the Ind narrative.
This implementation should do the trick and no need to set up any "social relationship", unless I've overseen a particular technical problem.
Thank you.

I found a problem with this as my Godmother was also my aunt and is on my tree so was in the drop down list, but my Godfather was not related to me and was just a friend of my father.

I found a problem with this as my Godmother was also my aunt by marriage to my uncle and being in my tree was found in the drop down list and memorised.

My Godfather on the other hand was a friend of my father and no relation and when I typed in his name it was not memorised.

How do I get round this?

This is a known bug that has been there for a long time.  We made the decision to have the Godfather/Godmother as plain text so you can type anything you want.  For this feature to kick-in, we need a .gno file format change.  The last file format change was in Beta 15.  Beta 18e will probably have a file format change.

Thanks for the tip.

This is not the most important part of my tree and can wait untill the 18e, I was just curious to try it with my godparents and found the bug.

I haven't put in other godparents as I don't know any and for me this is not very important part of my tree as they are mostly not blood relatives and don't figure in the family tree anyway. If someone asks me to include their godparents, I will, but nobody has asked me yet.

It is true that in the various versions, even the latest 18c, the Godfather and/or the Godmother names are not saved, unless these people are themselves in the tree. I guess it is a bug which can be fixed easily.

Best regards to everyone

Stupid Suggestion- Add a God Parents location in the baptism drop down list or a God Mother/God Father independently. Then, have a way to link the two or more together (parent/children baptisms).
