I think that a foster child is placed with a couple who act as parents but are not legally parents. In UK they would still be under legal protection from a Court or in the charge of a Social Service Department. Adoption means the new parents are legally responsable for the child

| I think that adoption is when the parents legally adopted a child that they are not his biological parents, where as a foster child is a child which is not yours (it can be a child of the spouse from different relationship) and you didn't legally adopted him.
