| Hi I have a major wish for GenoPro to include a link system that will allow the linking of numerous individuals into a family tree. If it is already possible, I havn't been able to find out how to do this. Let me explain in more detail what I mean with an example. My family (with my wife, son, my wife's sisters and their sons) are now repeated 4 times in 4 separate family trees. When I find spelling error in this section of the tree, I need to correct it 4 times. When I add another photo, I need to add it 4 times. That is, any changes to any details of this section of the tree requires me to repeat it on all the other trees. The whole process could be improved by creating a small tree with my family on it and reference it from the other 4. This way any changes made on this small tree would automatically reflect in the other 4 trees. If this is now possible, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks Frank1

Frank1, as far as I understood from the forum, most of the people is using th egenomap + hyperlinks for these purpose. So instead of having several trees (several files, I mean) you should set up one tree (one file) and use the genomaps to separate the trees. In this case for those individuals you mentioned there will be one 'real' individual + three hypelinks points to that individual.
Or, you can play with the External hyperlink feature (create a hyperlink, go to the hyperlink tab and follow the instructions . However, I have never tried this feature, but the text said:
The external hyperlink is used to link multiple GenoPro documents together...
To link two individuals from different genealogy trees, enter the name of the .gno file in which the individual found...
A more reliable method of linking is to use the Permanent ID as the hyperlink target. Use the format "?id=ind9999.....
The only one concern here is, that this refers to the .gno file, while the new betas are using .xml...

| Hello fbukolyi I don't know exactly what you mean by the GenoMap+Hyperlink. I assume that this is the same as you mention later about the Hyperlink. I did try that and do use it to switch to different genomaps. But these Hyperlinks do not show the linked object(s) in the source genomap. It only switches to the GenoMap that it points to. What I am referring to (above) is having that link but show the linked objects in the original genomap. Let explain this in a different way: I will use a Microsoft Word capability. Imagine a document that has some text that I want reference and insert into 4 different documents. In the 4 separate documents I Insert Link the reference document. Now, all 4 documents have my reference document displayed + any other text I have in each of the 4 documents. If I now change some text in my reference document, those changes will automatically be reflected in the 4 separate documents without changes being made to the 4 documents. What I would like, is to use GenoMaps as documents in Word. This is exactly what I was trying to describe. Thanks Frank1

Right, if you are clicking on the hyperlink it will move you to the next genomap. To see the details right click and select Properties (or double click on the black circle/square). Here you can change the details of the individual (like adding pictures) and this change will reflect for ALL hyperlinks refer to that individual.
I have just made a small test:
1. File|New. 2. Create an individual (New male) on Genomap1. 3. Create a hyperlink of this individual to Genomap2. 4. change the name (or other details) of this individual on Genomap1: all changes will be shown in Genomap2 as well
5. then I create a new hyperlink of the object in Genomap2 to Genomap3. 6. change the middle name of the object in Genomap3 7. the changes shown for all the three 'instances' of the individual.
To have some glue to your Word example: the reference individual is 'hidden' in Genopro. After creating a hyperlink of an individual both instances (the original and the hypelink as well) looks like a hyperlink. Genopro maintains the data automatically.
If you make the example above and change to the table view of the individuals you will se three lines (View|Table layout - Individuals). If you change here anything (like the name, etc.) in one line, all the three lines will be changed.

Right click on the individual on Genomap1. From the popup menu select: New Hyperlink|Genomap2. This will create a hyperlinked 'instance' of the individual in Genomap1 to Genomap2.

| O/K, I got it. That's great. Now, What if GenoMap1 has a family of 14 people. How do I link the whole group (family) to GenoMap2? Thanks Frank1

| Thanks for those links explaining all the problems regarding family links. I won't say that I understand it, but I will say that at this stage it is more complicated to create the Hyperlinks that I would want than to just create my trees and maintain the 4 separate family sections as I have done for months (oops, years). I don't think that it will be feasible to do what I want on my family trees until GenoPro Hyperlinks will simulate my Microsoft Word analogy. Sorry for using up all your time. But, at lease I know it can't be done, not yet at least. Thanks a lot Frank1

| You can create hypelink to the individuals (one by one) but not for the families After hyperlinking to the second Genomap, type the letter "v" and the rest of the family will join the hyperlinked individual. Otherwise you can highlight all the members (hold down the shift key while selecting members) and then right click on one of the selections to "move to genomap" All selected will move in one action
