How difficult would it be to put in Geocode addresses in the General dialogues.

I know I can do it via custom tags.

What I really want to do is to interface the geocode addresses to Google Earth.

Is a Geocode Address composed of longitude and latitude?

I'm working on some projects that will read a GenoPro XML file to create maps.

It's possible also that a utility could read the XML file, use something like the Yahoo geocoder service (which I already have an interface to) and update the custom tags (maybe Latitude and Longitude) of an individual with the latitude and longitude of their primary address (or where they were born or died, etc.).

I will post on the forum when there's something for people to test out.

Why not add the values to the existing  latitude/longitude tags of places in the XML rather than add custom tags to an Individual?  I was also thinking of a similar script but would not have started it for some weeks. I'll wait to see your script first.

The next Report update already has a feature to attempt to geocode places without latitude & longitude by using the place address or place name.

I was wondering when you would get to it Ron! Do you sleep?

I have been using Google Earth for Geocoding.  It is excellent, even finding street addresses in very small towns like

23 Morrison Street, Cobar, New South Wales, Australia
A town of 7000 people in an area of 40.000 square miles (very isolated).

However it is a chore when starting with an established database. We look forward to a script being written that can reduce the work load.

I am sure however that the chore is worth the effort and commend everybody to embrace the new mapping function once it is released.

Only because I hadn't gotten that far yet!
