When I import my Gedcom file from The Master Genealogist the pictures do not appear.

I am using the latest version of Genopro 2007 V 2.0.0.2. The Master Genealogist version is V5.15.000.  When I check in the table view in Genopro all the locations of my pictures appear for each individual in a field labeled OBJE.FILE.  There seems to be a compatibility issue with the format of the TMG Gedcom file.  Is there any way I can copy the contents of the OBJE.FILE Field and paste it into the PICTURES field.  I see there is also a PICTURE COUNT field do I need to enter a count in this.  (I only ever import a single primary picture for each individual).

I have used TMG as the repository for my research data for many years. From time to time I generate Genomaps and with the latest version I am using Genopro to create my Webpages which are a considerable improvement on my last program.  Therefor the export from TMG to Genopro is going to become a regular operation, this is why I would like to find an easy workaround for this problem.

I accept this is probably a problem with TMG rather than Genopro, but any any assistance you can give me to resolve this would be appreciated.

GenoPro does not really import multimedia files (pictures, file attachments) from Gedcom files.  We still have a lot of work to do regarding importing Gedcom files.

Thanks for your response.

Genopro does import the paths and file names correctly and as advised puts them into a field called OBJE.FILE surely there must be some way I can move or copy them to the PICTURES field.

I can add an option to do this to my Toolkit (http://support.genopro.com/FindPost16307.aspx) when I return in a week's time, as the option is already present for birth/baptism/death/disposition photos. But be aware GenoPro only imports the last photo for an individual as it only supports one OBJE tag per individual section, (general, birth, death etc.). Also if earlier OBJE tags have unique subtags (i.e. they do not appear under the last OBJE tag) , GenoPro will import these into the one OBJE custom tag.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your response.

That would be great if you can add this to your toolkit.  Waiting a week or so is not a problem.

Thank you for your help

Hi Ron,

I have waited a couple of weeks and downloaded your XML Toolkit and run it but it does not convert the pictures for me.

Am I not driving it correctly, or have you had the time to add the feature to yourr Tookkit.  I am no a programmer so some detailed instructions on which options to choose from the Toolkit may help.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards,

Peter

I have retested it and in my test OBJE.FILE tags under an individual are converted to pictures. I have uploaded a revised version (2.0.0.b7) with slightly amended text. You need to tick the box by the line

Convert any individual, birth, baptism, death or disposition OBJE tags to Picture records

The log will show how many OBJE tags have been converted:

 Processing 15 individuals...

Processed 15 Individuals

converting 6 OBJE tags to Pictures

Re-encoding character entities, please wait .........

Modified data has been written to G:\Shared Documents\Genealogy\GenoPro\Testing\test.xml

N.B. Only the new XML file has the amended data.

You now need to run GenoPro 2007 and open this updated XML file.

If you are happy with the result you can then save back into a new .gno file or into the original .gno file.

It is recommended that you first create a backup of the original file.

Note that the amended data is written back to a .xml file and not to your original .gno file.
