Ideally, you have to enter the Lattitude and Longitude for places. On the other hand, if you enter a full address, such as city, state & country, GoogleMap will be able to locate it on a map.

See this. Excerpt for geocoding:
Latitude / Longitude Coordinates of the location. This can be used later for GPS data or map coordinates to obtain precise data about the location of the event. Web sites like Maporama can provide latitude and longitude data.

Is there some way of getting GoogleMaps accessed via a Report to behave sensibly for UK locations? For example, I have a place "London" defined as being a City in England, and yet GoogleMaps produces a map of England, Arkansas! And for a town such as Croydon, Surrey there appears an error message "GoogleMaps API failed to locate this place (Surrey, England). Unavailable address: the geocode for the given address cannot be returned due to legal or contractual reasons."
On the other hand, if the data is input direct into the GoogleMaps website (http://maps.google.com/) the required maps appear. So how can I ensure that the same maps are obtained via a GenoPro Report?

| Please see post http://support.genopro.com/FindPost16440.aspx. You will need to enter latitude & longitude for UK places. I often use http://www.strteetmap.co.uk for this. It will show coordinates below the map e.g. for London 'Location is at 531500E 181500N (N51:31:02 W0:06:22)'. Just enter N51:31:02 as Latitude and W0:06:22 as Longitude.

Why not use Google Earth its self. The Coordinates are displayed at the bottom left hand corner of the frame. It is so accurate I can derive coordinates for my front and back door! This also lets you derive the best scale to set for each locality. Don't forget to check Google Earth as they are continuing to update the images - the improvement is often dramatic (look at Lincolnshire). Ian

Thanks guys, as you say it works fine when you input the latitude and longitude. Unfortunately I can't use Google Earth as it doesn't work on Windows ME

| I have just noticed a difference in the way the Google maps work within a report. On the home page the link "Overview Map of all geocoded places" will only display UK places where the latitude and longitude are recorded. However if you click on one of the places eg from the list 'Most Popular Places' and follow the link "Display Google Map of this location (if available)" then the map might be displayed with that place marked. Does not always work - you may get the error message that Google did not recognise the place name, but there are obviously at least two levels of recognition here. However it is a useful addition to the use of this feature
