Hi there,

I am in the home stretch of evaluating GenoPro and would like an answer on 3 queries.

1. Is it possible to split the database? I have about 2000+ names and would like to put them into separate families. i.e. My father's line, and my mother's line are 2 examples. At the moment they are all in the one area.

2. If (1) is possible, can I renumber the records when they are split? If so, how do I do it?

3. Can a Privacy "flag" be added to an Individual. At the moment I have only 1 person (out of 2000+) that does not want their information on the Internet.

I don't have any other queries - AT THE MOMENT!

Thanks in advance.

Ian Bell

1 Yes. The GenoMap feature is designed to do this. You select the individuals to be moved and use the tools provided. There has been a lot of discussion on this forum about the way to do this. Basically you Move, not copy and paste and then the family links are preserved

2 The record numbers are used, and generated by GenoPro. You can delete them, use column erase, and then Genopro will assign new ones

3 Privacy flags were more of a problem than anticipated when first developed. At present the only option is to remove individuals who are still living. You could use this feature to exclude one individual, with a bit of juggling.

However there is the suggestion that it is not a good idea to put any details of living people for general access and you can have a password protected version. I have two versions of my family on the GenoPro site. The open one does not detail living people. The Password protected has everybody.

This might be a better way

As appleshaw has explained, GenoMaps are usually used to split family lines, but it is equally possible to store the families in separate .gno files. Hyperlinks are still possible between the files - see the Hyperlink tab on an individual's Properties.

3. Can a Privacy "flag" be added to an Individual. At the moment I have only 1 person (out of 2000+) that does not want their information on the Internet.

It is possible to 'tag' an individual so that they are excluded from the narrative report - on the Family tab of an Individual's Properties click 'Make Label / Exclude From Report' and they will not be included in the report. However, they will still be shown on the .svg graphical tree. For a small number of individuals it is probably easier to temporarily delete them from the tree before publishing it.
