What is the best way to enter unconfirmed infromation and relationships?

For example, Dates that are not certain but the best you have ie about 1845 or after or before 1800, or in the late 1950's. Currently dates must be a specific year/year/month/ full date format to be accepted and displayed properly.

For relationships, where you are not totally sure when the relationship is but you know it is somewhere close.

ie: you know that someone married a cousin and you have their cousin name but you don't know which brother or sister, assuming you know them too the cousin was the son/daughter of?

If there was an uncertainty flag tickbox next to the date or on the relationship that when ticked would change the color of the item (date) or link so these situations would stand out graphically that would be good.

Also on dates to allow some qualifier prefix like about, before, after, approx would be good.

Could you describe the best way these sistuations could be expressed in GenoPro currently?

Regards,

Phil.

For all dates, input:

1) about/approx.: ~2008

2) before: <May/2008

3) after: >May/2008

Thanks JC.

I didn't realise that < > ~ were acceptable in date fields.

Is there a place in the online help documentation that describes these?

They don't appear to be displayed though in the the graphics display they seem to be ignored.

Regards,

Phil.

You raise a good point, those hidden features are not documented nowhere.  GenoPro also supports BEF (Before), AFT (After) and ABT (About) for dates.

Example:

BEF 1930   =>   <1930
AFT 1946   =>   >1946
ABT 1940   =>   ~1940

If you want to get extra information on the Display then use Custom tags. If you use the XML toolkit from the Report Generator you can, for instance, convert baptisms to an approximate date. Using the same Custom tag you can then edit it and add any information
