is there a way that we could make the default valuse smart

| You can use the Table Layout (Ctrl+T) and click on the Age column. This action will sort all the individuals from the youngest to the oldest. You can then find which individual is "too old" and click on the checkbox "Is Dead" next to it to mark the individual as deceased. Pressing the keyboard key X markes the selected individual as deceased. This feature works well for many selected individuals. If you want to make a whole family branch as deceased, click on the button Select Ancestors ( ) and press X.

...as well as their ascendants, who are likely not to have year-of-birth info.

Yep! The AutoDeceased option is more than just marking everyone older than 100yo as "dead". Sometimes the DoB is missing, so the age must be approximated using the marriage date, the age of the siblings or even the age of the parents.
The maximum age of 100yo is also something that can must be modified. Some individuals do use GenoPro for animal pedigree while others do plant classification. Most animals do not live 100yo and some plant such as some trees may live well over 100yo. All of this to say there will be a field specify the threshold age for the AutoDeceased.

It is not as difficult as it sounds. Once the AutoDeceased has calculated an individual as deceased, than all its ancestors will be automatically marked as deceased. I want GenoPro to be smart enough to handle common sense cases.
