I’m a big fan of GenoPro, after trying almost everything else out there, including Family Tree Maker, Personal Ancestral File and The Master Genealogist. At this point I won’t use anything else because nothing comes close to GenoPro for ease of use, flexibility and viewability. Most of those others are geared to beginners, and the ones that aren’t are overly complicated. GenoPro has an excellent blend of simplicity and power. :o
Kudo’s for the great improvements in GenoPro Beta 2.b11h!! I have a few comments, some in comparison to the GenoPro Gold v1.91b which I have been using.
1. Date Display – GenoPro Gold has a checkbox for Individual Properties/View/Force Date Wrap, which I used exclusively. It displays the years, one on top of the other, in alignment. There is no such option for GenoPro Beta… I did get the years to wrap by selecting Display/Display Lines/4… but there is an ugly ‘-‘ on the second line. It really ruins the clean look. 2. Military Service – I would have expected a separate category for Military Service. I see there is a selection for Military in Occupations, but if you really wanted to be complete, I suggest making a new tag category. I have ancestors that served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WW I & II, Korean, Vietnam and Gulf Wars. And with ranks from Private up to General in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Cavalry, Arsenal, Seabees, etc. Honors such as Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, etc. And disposition such as KIA, MIA, Honorable Discharge, etc. It would be great to have built-in selections for each of these. (After reading through the wish list again, I see that you have added military rank to the prefix title for a name… I guess that’s okay, but I would rather have a separate category with all of the stuff including war, service, rank, honors and disposition. 3. Convert Comments – I have one tree with nearly 4000 individuals and another with nearly 2000. I have used GenoPro exclusively and thus, since it had no entry for locations and sources, I have lumped a lot of things in comments. I have used b. for birthplace, d. for death place, m. for marriage place, etc. I see that LDS (familysearch.org) takes the comments field from my GenoPro-generated GEDcoms and uses the b. d. and m. as markers for the location fields. Can GenoPro Beta have some sort of routine to convert the ‘old’ GenoPro files using a similar algorithm? 4. Display Font – there is no display font selection as in GenoPro Gold (Edit/Preferences/Font Name). I use Verdana or Tahoma because they are more compact. And also the font size should be selectable. 5. Export GEDcom – I know that you are working on this, but the program is useless to me if I cannot convert to GEDcom. 6. Message Log – a useful tool, but I would prefer to not see it normally. I tried turning it off under View/Message Log, but it always reappears when saving or searching and it covers up some of the workspace unnecessarily. 7. Bookmarks – ahhh… they’re gone! Please, I want them back!! You need these to move back and forth to match things up… 3 is good. :!: 8. Death Input – when entering data for an individual, and you select the birth tab, the date field is automatically highlighted… but not when selecting the death tab. It saves a step to have the date field highlighted. 9. Automatic Ordering of Children – I see that when entering birthdates for children in a family, they are automatically ordered chronologically. A nice feature, which I will probably use, but I would like to have the option of turning it off. 10. AutoArrange – I don’t use it because it is unreliable and nowhere near as compact or neat as manual arrangement. 11. Clear Contents – I would really like to have a button for clearing the contents of selected individuals… just like delete, except just to clear all the fields. I clone (cut/paste) almost all of my additions and changes, so clearing the fields would be very helpful to erase the old data. 8) 12. Census Info. – I am surprised there is no separate section for census information. I guess I could put it in the sources for birthdate, but there is much more in a census record, such as family relationships, locations, occupations, etc. 13. Genomap Tabs – nice feature… not sure yet about what to use it for. I normally keep two instances of GenoPro Gold open… one is a working (Strays) file, the other is my confirmed (Final) file. I see that with Genomaps I can search the groups simultaneously… okay… but what about exporting and reporting? Can I select just one of the genomaps for output? 14. Emotional Relationships – what the heck is that for? The first thing I did was turn off the toolbar display for this.
Some of this is splitting hairs and I am very happy with most of the new features, such as the expanded tag system, custom tags, colored fill and red markers.
I know some of these have appeared on your wish list board, but these features are still of interest/importance to me:  1. Reverse table look-up (click on chart, name table follows along) 2. New person template - default properties (e.g. – is dead?, date wrap, surname, etc) 3. Compare files for import/merge (highlight differences, choose to merge or discard whole/part)
Thanks, Mark Fonda www.fonda.org

I am surprised that nobody answers to the many items listed in this post. Looks like everybody is hoping that Genopro answers. Nevertheless I will try as far as I can:
1) The display of dates should be decided by a choice pre-defined by Genopro. The present choices are not enough. But since more items will be selectable in the future by redefining the display dialog box we can only mention our wishes. I think the display of dates on top of eachother is a fair request.
2) Military service for some is education only, for others its an occupation and for others it is neither of both, it is a must and for others it never happened. I think Genopro should consider these option by including another dialog box.
3) Needs to be commented by Genopro
4) Display font can be selected by right clicking anywhere in the genomap and select the properties. From there you can selct the font, however all genomaps will have the same font. A different font for each genomap is already on the wishlist and is known to Genopro.
5) It is not only important to you, dear amfonda, but to everybody, so be patient, its scheduled for the next beta.
6) It will most probably switched off in the final V 2.0. As long as it is a beta it will most probably stay there.
7) Bookmarks are also on the wishlist and will be included in one of the next betas or in the final Version, according to Genopro in one of its previous postings.
8) Needs to be answered by Genopro.
9) No comment
10) Please read all the comments about autoarrange, comments about this feature vary.
11) There are a few ways to do it: a) use the table layout or b) wait for the "global replace" function as wished by some in this forum.
12) No comment
13) Genomaps are very usefull, especially if your tree has grown to proportions not suitable for printing. Since a new reporting style is under development we should not comment on these. I am quite sure Genopro is considering this.
14) Quite a number of customers of Genopro are in the medical field and for them the emotional tools are very important. We should keep it that way. If you switch the toolbar off, that's your choice. We should be glad we have this choice!
I hope my comments have not offended anybody but I have used Genopro also now for a number of years and I am also anxious to try my hands on the final Version 2.0.

I had another look at the Display of dates and I realized that the sample as shown to us as prepared by Genopro, using the beta version, was made using the year of berth only. The option in the Display menu lets as display date of Birth and date of Death on top of eachother, but not year of berth and year of death, unless our input into those fields of the individual was the year only. I think the sample is misleading, making us belief a display of YoB and YoD on top of eachother is possible.

Sorry for the long delay of my reply. This message "slipped" out. One thing I dislike about this new forum is the lack of a notification message when a new post is available. After I click on the link "View posts since last visit", I cannot come back another day to see what messages I have not replied. The forum should have a search button named "view all posts I have not answered". By the way, I am still looking for a better forum. The new forum must be SQL based with full support for Unicode. Any suggestions?
Back to your questions: 1. {Date Display} Beta 13 or 14 will have the option to format strings to be displayed in the genealogy tree. This feature will use VBScript and/or JavaScript.
2. {Military Service} You can use the user-defined tags to record military related information. If you send me a list of fields regarding military records, I may consider adding a special dialog for this. At the moment, there are far too many dialogs. I will have to create a mechanism to let the user to pick which dialogs to display when displaying the properties of an individual. Another alternative is to use the Occupation to record the military service.
3. {Convert Comments} I am not sure to understand the suggestion. I think the suggestion is related to importing a Gedcom file where the comments are lost. If this is the case, can you try Beta 12 at http://www.genopro.com/beta/. This beta can read shared comments from a Gedcom file.
4. {Display Font} Maru-san answered for me. Thanks.
5. {Gedcom Export} This feature is available in Beta 12.
6. {Message Log} The message log cannot be hidden when an important event or an error occurs. This feature will remain until you are using a beta product.
7. {Bookmarks} The bookmarks will be back. In fact, there will be unlimited bookmarks with names and comments, much better than bookmark #1, #2 and #3. Of course, you will be capable to bind a number to a bookmark for fast keyboard navigation.
8. {Death Input} I am considering having a "Express Input" dialog where the frequent fields such as first name, last name, date of birth, date of death, cause of death are located in a single dialog. Again, there willl be an option to have this dialog hidden.
9. {Automatic Ordering of Children} The new AutoArrange of version 2.1 will be capable to do partial AutoArrange, including the re-ordering of children under a family.
10. {AutoArrange} See my comment at Topic5149-58-1.aspx
11. {Clear Contents} This is a good suggestion. I guess there should be a menu listing all the possible fields to be cleared and the user would select which field to clear. The menu should look similar to the "Display Menu".
12. {Census Info} I need help here. I don't know what "Census Info" is about. Can you send me documentation and samples "Census Info". Thanks.
13. {GenoMaps} The GenoMap allows you to split a large genealogy tree into smaller sub-trees while preserving the entire pedigree structure. Exporting and reporting is bypassing the GenoMaps, so there is nothing to worry about it.
14. {Emotional Relationships} The emotional relationships are used in the genogram documentation. A genogram is like a family tree and is used by therapists. Although we may not be therapists, it may be handy to document what non-blood relationships exists between individuals. Our lives are affected by the relations we have with others, probably more than our pedigree relationships.

I'm pretty certain that another tab is needed for military service. I wouldn't call Military Service an occupation. In Finland it is an obligatory duty for men to go to the Service for 180, 270, 330 or 362 days depending on training - women can join voluntarily - but they don't WORK for the Finnish Defensive Forces.
Here's a little something I got listed for Military Service tab (sorry I don't know military vocabulary very well):
Draft - date & place Oath - date & place Military Service - obligatory/voluntary - completed/discontinued - time: begin,end,duration - place - Army/Navy/Air force - unit - branch of service: infantry, artillery, ... - armed/conscientious objector - speciality: medic, ... - training - rank: rookie, private, ... , general
Perhaps the author of this thread could list more about "all of the stuff including war, service, rank, honors and disposition".

Thanks for your input. I appreciate a lot the level of details and suggested fields you listed. I will think of something to be done for this issue.
