Hi there.

I'm working on my map and have probably reached the maximum information I can get.

What I think of now is: there are maybe other user of genopro or similar programs which maybe have some information overlapping with my map and some Information I dont have. It could be a very great feature to make it easier (and just 1-click) to find any overlapping information over the internet.

I think of it as a generator of some mathematical string for each individual (similar to a checksum) - these strings would then be transfered (if allowed) to some server. Now user without goldenkey just become a shortened message if some individuals which are overlapping (or probably overlapping) are found on the server. The goldenkeyusers instead can get in contact with the user "owning" the overlapping individual to find out if the individual is really the same person and to exchange information. The method of getting in contact could be to choose - maybe there are more possibilities to include.

The checksum-like codes (hash-codes?) would be not to long (to save webspace on the central server/website) and would be useful just for comparing and would not show any readable information of individuals.

This seems for me to be the only possibility to find new information from other genopro users in an efficient and AUTOMATIC way. Maybe there are already some maps out there waiting for fusion???

What do you think about it?

Michael

Back in 1998 & 1999, I was toying the idea of writing a search engine to find individuals from .gno documents. Users could submit their family trees to the GenoPro "search engine" so other users could try to find matches and share genealogy data. At that time, it was the search engine fever; there was about 3,000 known search engines, and Yahoo (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=yhoo) had a market cap over $200 Billions. Since then, many things changed, as search engines have evolved and many other search services became available. Today, there are websites hosting Gedcom files for that purpose. Also, GenoPro 2.0 uses XML, which could be index by nearly a search engine.

When I am done with GenoPro version 2.0 & 2.1, I will contact some of those "search engines" and discuss strategies to make it easy for GenoPro users to submit their family trees. I have no plans to re-invent the wheel, as there are many websites offering search services.
