In neither 1.9 or Beta 2 have I been able to get the Descendent Tree button to behave differently from the Select Entire Tree.

I have a genogram going back several generations on both my wife's and my own side. If I select one of her ancestors, I can use the Select Direct Descendents button to identify them but this does not pick out, for example, the spouse.

I had hoped that the Descendent Tree button would do this, but it goes down the tree and then climbs back up on my side.

To achieve a complete separation I have had to move a Direct Descendant tree to a different Genomap and then use the Find table to collect the strays, which can be identified if the column for Genomap is added to the table. This is a lot easier in 2.0 as the links are preserved whereas in 1.9 the tree had to be moved to a New page.

Have I missed something, or misinterpreted the use of Descendent Tree?

Descendent tree function selects entire tree on descendent line so it is to wide function for most users, so you might try something like this:
Select direct descendents and then select spouse (of selection), and result will be selection of spouses of all the selected persons...

Is this what you wanted!

Thanks for this tip. I thought there would be a better way to do it. I found that, starting with your idea, and selecting Mate, followed by selection of Siblings, then Mate again and Children it is possible to remove part of the tree (a bit more than a branch - more like a copse out of a forest)

It is this action that I thought the Descendent Tree should do. In my case it selects the whole table.
