I know I can click on an object, like a parent link, and it will fill with solid squares.

BTW, why are there so many solid squares between one man and one woman (married couple)? If you place the cross on a square and move it, those squares seemingly multiply like the brooms in Fantasia's sorcerer's apprentice. Then I have to move each square to make the line neat and tidy. There is no joy with "snap to grid" when the squares are misaligned.

There is also a miniature + or - next to the cross. What does that mean?

Any guidance is appreciated. Using 1.91b

The + or - signes are indicating weather you want to add or remove an object from your selection.

I think that what you're talking about is - when there is a link (relationship) betwen persons you can stretch the line and mould it in any shape you want, but line is descripted ina a point-to-point way, and each point has it's own descriptors (coordinates of begining and of the end) so when you select some object that has more then two points (begining and end) little squares shown are points in between... + and - signs mean that when you see them (and at that point release mouse click), line descriptor has being added (+) or removed (-).

What you should do is zoom in, and remove as many squares as you can... Then, you'll have straight line between persons, and no squares except at the begining and the end of the line...

I don't think it is working for me. When I enlarge the window, and click on an object line, the squares appear. When the minus sign appears I left click again and nothing happens. I have done that 42 times, nothing happens. If I double click I get the properties dialogue box. If I right click I get the interactive menu. If I select delete, ALL boxes and the Object lines disappear. Pretty scary from my point of view. Thank goodness for the "Return before you screwed up" arrow icon on the toolbar!

There must be more to this than meets the eye.

I think I know what you mean. If you add a child to a couple, the first time the link will only have one blue square half way along. If you keep adding children so that they go beyond the horizontal marriage line, then the link will be bent, with extra blue squares. You can extend the marriage line and move the link so that it looks vertical, but it will still have those extra squares if you select it. More to the point, when you move the child you may also bend the link - if you are not careful.

I find the simplest way to get rid of this is to delete the link and recreate it - using select (child), right click and on the menu that opens use 'Link As Child'. You can then rejoin the child to the marriage.

The problem is that if you have a marriage that needs 'cleaning up', you can not do this in GenoPro 1.91b. The answer is upgrade to 2 Beta, which does include Link As Mate - plus lots, lots more. The only disadvantage is that all features are not completed; the main thing missing from my point of view is that the Report Writer is not ready yet.

The first part of the answer of V.L.o. is quite appropiate and gives the basic answer to your question. But why do you want to touch this line anyway. If you want to move a person you click the person (drag and drop) and not the line (at least not on the squares), unless you do not like straight lines.

In order to straighten this line is a job to be done by someone you do not like. The best way is just delet the line (not the individual and not the marriage line) and via right click of the individual re-link as parents with a straight line to the marriage line.

Does this help you?

There is no need to delete any object in GenoPro and re-create it because its visual aspect is not what you want. If you have splitted the family/marriage line in two horizontal lines, you can collapse it by selecting a bottom handle (blue square) and moving the bottom handle upward until the two lines become a single line.

As for having multiple handles (blue squares) with the mouse cursor + and -, this is how it works: When you move the mouse over a handle and you see a + next to the arrow cursor, it means this is a "virtual handle" and clicking on it will create an additional handle. When you are moving the handle and you see a - sign, it means the handle overlaps with its adjacent handle. If you release the mouse at this point, the handle will be deleted.

The other method to see the + next to the cursor is when holding the CTRL key over a selection. Holding the CTRL key will copy/clone the selection instead of moving it.

Hope this helps.
