some one who is not exactly computer savy sent me there master list in .ged format

but when i finaly got the cd it was XX.ged.FTW

witch makes me think that they had file extentions turned off on there computer

does anyone know if there is something that opens ftw that is free

or a good way to convert this file to gedcom or .ged

This files sounds like somthing that was created by Family Tree Maker (FTM).
My suggestion is: try to copy the file and rename it by droping the .ftw part so it will be called XX.ged and try open it either with Notepad or other software that lets you read GEDCOMs.

Is it a text file?
If it is maybe it can be edited to the GEDCOM format. I guess it has the basic GEDCOM format but FTM added some unique tags of FTM.

Have you tried to go to : http://filext.com/
and then the box labelled "search for extension ....."? This site has helped me a couple of times.

Another site to try is CKNOW.COM

this was taken care of several months ago

i guess i should have said so in the post

one of are wonder forum members converted it over for me.

the file is still WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY to complicated to manage with out the improved auto arange so i am patiantly waiting for 2.0
