Can someone tel me, why I get this warning, when I'm using Windows XP? And what to do about it.

| Your family tree (genogram) is wider than 65536 units, meaning it won't be fully visible on Windows 98 (and 95 & ME). Eventually, I will remove this warning message because fewer and fewer individuals are using Windows 95/98/ME. To reduce the width of your family tree, split it into several smaller GenoMaps. See post Better AutoArrange for details how to split a large genogram into sub-trees.

Under XP, you can go up to 4 billion units. I recommend to split your tree into several GenoMaps; this will make it easier to read, edit and print. You can have up to 1000 GenoMaps per .gno document.

Like I said in my first question, I am using XP, but I still get a warning that my geogram is too large.
I understand that working with genomaps is easier, but that does not answer my question. Anyone any ideas?

JohnDan answered your question. The tree is limited in his width. In windows XP the limitation is bigger, but still a limit. My suggestion, as well as Dan, is to use the GenoMaps ability and split your tree. Spliting your tree will decrese the width of your tree and therefore you wont get any error messages. Apparently you have a very large tree, As Dan said you can use up to 1,000 GenoMaps in a .gno file. I have a much smaller tree and I use the GenoMaps myself. It is more readable and easy to follow than a large tree.

| Have you maybe just upgraded win xp on win98? MS is having bugs that can be resolved only with clean install! I just cannot believe you have too big tree... How many individuals you have in it? How have you arranged them? Is your tree "overstretched"?

| I have over 4000 people on my complete tree, but have never had any problems with the width, even with my old computer and win98se, before changing to XP .

| I'm just trying to offer solutions... As for mentioned upgrade issues... Some administration options were disabled on my friends computer after Win98se Win Xp upgrade, the other one couldn't access any dial-up, or connections... and when I searched through Microsoft knowledge database, I found out they weren't isolated cases... Clean reinstall was suggested option! To be more precise, the only option possible if they wanted to regain control of their computers... These are cases I stubled upon, and I've heard some more... Not to pretty... Few things I concluded out of it... Don't touch OS or any of its options if you don't make a full backup first, (but you'll anyway forget some (very important) data hidden in some obscure directory) ... Never believe MS if you have another option... ...(just to name some)... But it was not the subject of this thread. I just hope solution would be found...
