| How does one find out if the names in common are actually related?

There is something wierd on this forum. I tried to post a message and was unable to. Also, I tried to delete one of your "empty" message and it deleted another message. I think there is a bug in the database regarding this thread.

This thread has been more useful than you think. One of the first task my brother Jean-Claude will do is a database repository to store all the names, so they can be updated individually, and people can receive email notifications on specific surnames.

| I used to use "Legacy" (before discovering GenoPro) which has a Search button on the Tool Bar with dropdown menu containing "Search Internet for Current Person" amongst other possibilities, which opens a small window containing various choices such as "FamilySearch"(LDS), "Altavista", "Inteliseek", "RootsWeb" , "Geneology.com" etc. and these can be customised at will by the user. Their system would be ideal for GenoPro. I still have Legacy on my computer but only use it as a backup for making gedcoms incase I have a problem with GenoPro and also for doing Internet searches.

I think a database would be ideal
there would have to be a ballance between free and full of crap witch seems to be the problem with most of the internet
an alternative to that ( but requires a larger population of users) is the ablity to self police like the wiki method or a vote / populatrity method or in otherwords basicly you validate a family tree by how much it matchs another family tree

A global world database is something GenoPro will offer in the future. Unlike other name repository, this database will be based on quality with a safe, yet simple, mechanism to make updates. There will be a logging mechanism to keep track of the changes made by each contributor in case of data vandalism or abuse. We are still drafting the implementation details. As soon as we have a working prototype, GenoPro will have a dedicated forum for suggestions & comments about this database.
