When viewing the English Narrative report you have decided to show only the Picture Name and then give a link to display other details in anoither frame.

Basically this approach has merit, however the field that should appear in the Narrative report should be the Picture Description and Comments, other details (date currently missing) could thereafter appear in another frame.

The Picture Name is not usually very pretty, mine say things like 196645 being pic 45 on film 1966 or PB15 being PB's album pic 15.

I understand that there is a difficulty should no Comments be entered, leaving no comment to click on. However by introducing the words 'further details' or similar after the existing/nonexisting Comment would suffice. And the Report page would be better for it.

I think the name of the picture has no much meaning to the visitor of the page, thats why I set the appearance to N in the config file. However the picture name is used in the picture gallery page. I like to propose to use the pic ID instead.
Beside having a lot of pictures makes the gallery page very slow. Can something beeing done about this?

In 2007, we have scheduled 4 weeks to implement a feature for GenoPro to create picture thumbnails with intelligent caching.  The thumbnails will be created once and cached both on the local disk and on the report.

In 2007, we have scheduled 4 weeks to implement a feature for GenoPro to create picture thumbnails with intelligent caching.  The thumbnails will be created once and cached both on the local disk and on the report.

I was unware that Picture thumbnails were planned but have been experimenting with Irfanview to produce thumbnails from the report 'pictures' folder. It is quite straightforward resize all pictures to 100x100 and 250x250 at say 72 dpi. As an interim measure I propose to allow subfolders under pictures called 100x100 and 250x250 (or whatever you choose your picture sizes to be in Config.xml) where these 'thumbnails' can be placed and then have a Config.xml parameter 'UseThumbnails" which when set to "Y" will generate hyperlinks to these much smaller images rather than the full size ones. One stumbling block at present is how to move these sub-folders to familytrees.genopro.com. With local reports and FTP-accessible web sites this can be done post report generation.

The picture's filename is just the default value for the 'picture name' field - you can always change GenoPro's name for the picture to something more meaningful. Essentially this field can be used as a short comment. You can use the table view of pictures to change the 'Picture Name' fields.

Basically this approach has merit, however the field that should appear in the Narrative report should be the Picture Description and Comments, other details (date currently missing) could thereafter appear in another frame.

With so much picture narrative, especially now that Custom Tags can be included, a slideshow becomes quite clumsy, with the rest of the page shuffling to accommodate different lengths of narrative. It was particularly awkward with slideshows of small pictures. Hence the decision to move it to a dedicated page. I'll look into providing the description as a tooltip, and an option for the picure id to be used in place of the picture name.

My picture names are important as they reference back to the photos original source e.g. 196654 equals photo 54 on film roll 1966. Having about 900 photos it would be a large amount of work to re-name all the photos. It would be more practical to take ALL the information, including the name to the next frame if it is not possible to place the Comments below the picture.

When looking at photos , most people are immediately interested in 'who they are', their names which I store in the picture notes.

Having released Beta 18d with no change to the narrative layout for photos, I again ask if we could either remove the picture name completely and list ALL details on the new frame else include picture notes/description with the picture. It would produce a much nicer result.

I have followed the idea that the photo either refers to a person's image in which case I name it "JohnSmith18yrs.jpg",  "JohnSmith(1865).jpg" or  "JohnSmith(child).jpg" etc or to the registry images which I name as follows  "JohnSmith-b.1857.jpg",  "JohnSmith-m.1880.jpg" or "JohnSmith-d.1936.jpg"

If I am not sure of the age or date I use the formule "JohnSmith-1.jpg", "JohnSmith-2.jpg" etc.

This gives an idea of what the picture is about at a glance, rather than just seeing a meaningless number which only has significance to the researcher himself, as I feel that family trees are there for the benefit of family members who would like to see who's photo it is.

Additional info about the photo can be added in the comments is required. (Just an opinion !)

When will we get the option to move all pictures from oint a to point d. Eventually, I want to transfer my pictures to CD, and it'd take a lot of tim to go in and manually change every one of them.
