Will there be other changes to the skins before the final version of GenoPro 2.0 ?

I have noticed that there is a white background for all the names in the SVG in the Beta 20 that wasn't there in 19g and I can change this to transparent for each genomap only one at a time but I have 79 genomaps so far and this will take ages to change them all unless there is a way of selecting the whole file or if this was possible using the "Automatic/Default" tab in the "File" "Properties" menu.

I have to do this as I have color coded the boxes for each generation and the white background for the text doesn't look right for me.

I think that the white background for individual's top & bottom labels when that individual has a border is a bug. The Report Generator seems to set the label fill to white as default and this is reflected in the SVG, even though the .xml file does have this setting. This is different from what is shown within GenoPro. It would be better if a transparent background was assumed by the Report Generator when a coloured border is present, without the user having to explicitly set the transparent option in Display poperties. This would match with what is observed within GenoPro itself.

I think this is possibly one for Dan to sort out.

This is true.  I was somewhat lazy/hurry to release Beta 20.  The idea behind of a background color for the top and bottom label was to simulate a background color when an indiviual is over a closed figure/shape or a social entity.

Perhaps GenoPro should automatically tick the "transparent text" when there is a border.

I've just noticed that GenoPro 'ignores' the background label colour when there is a border. If this is intentional then I can fix the SVG issue by drawing the label background first before the border thus making the SVG match the GenoPro rendering.

I am working on a fix.  When there is a border, GenoPro will automatically tick the "transparency" for the text.  The fix will work nicely, and hopefully you won't have to change anything.

Thanks for this next fix, I only noticed it as I always color my boxes. Tongue

I can't however get Ron's "gnoxmlutil.vbs" to work with Beta 20 as it seems to run as usual to add the marriages labels etc but changes nothing ! Ron, have you got a newer version of your super tool ? Unsure

I noticed that your "gnoxml2ged.vbs" is included in the Accessories of GenoPro and wondered if the latest version of your "gnoxmlutil.vbs" could be included as well. Wink

UPDATE

I just found Ron's message about this problem on his web site and so have reinstalled Beta19g in another folder in order to use the "gnoxmlutil.vbs" and will continue like this untill it is included in GenoPro as Ron promissed it will be done soon. Tongue

All these changes?

When I try to update my report, it is all wrong, error after error, then it stops. (I'm using a customized report).

Guess, I'll have to remake the entire report.

A question for Dan:
Can the Report Generator can still support "old" tags in order to avoid all those errors?

Just a thought: Can the Report Generator can internaly? For example - the first change you indicate is: GenoMap.boundary_rect -> GenoMap.BoundaryRect can the Report Generator internaly recognise the "old" tag - GenoMap.boundary_rect - and regard it as the new tag - GenoMap.BoundaryRect?

Can the Report Generator can still support "old" tags in order to avoid all those errors?

GenoPro does imports "old" tags, however those tags have been explicitly removed from the report generator to avoid problems down the road.  For instance, the tag boundary_rect was renamed to BoundaryRect.  GenoPro will support boundary_rect until version 3.0, however the tag boundary_rect will be completely removed for GenoPro 3.0.  Supporting boundary_rect means your report won't work on GenoPro version 3.0.

It is better to know which tags are no longer supported, than finding in year 2008 or 2009 that your skin is no longer working.  Some people will spend hundred of hours customizing their skin, and some will distribute their custom skin to others.  We want people to upgrade, and having legacy tags from early betas will bring trouble and frustration when GenoPro 3.0 is out.

Using a text editor such as Notepad should take less than one hour.  I can help you renaming those tags.
