Hello

I am sure someone amongst all of you experienced users will first of all laugh ur sox off then kindly help out this aged newbie!!

I would like to have the permanent id show up every time an individuals name appears on any and all pages generated when I run a report through the report generator. I would like to include this on the index listing as well as the individual person page, the family page and on the pedigree chart.

I know a little about HTML coding so if anyone can suggest how I can customise an existing skin or better still send me a link to one already customised??

Thank you

Elly

I am sure that this is possible, and we will all probably wait for Ron to return in a few day's time to answer your request.

However, may I be so bold as to ask why you would have this requirement? I wonder if what you are trying to achieve can in fact be done in a a different way, and without alteration to the report skin? Unsure

By the way, if you take a look at the code, the Permanent ID is used in all pages of the HTML reports when linking to a .gno file.

This is an example of linking Harry Potter to its .gno file.

Hello and thanks for the reply. I have this requirement because it seems my family members had a penchant for calling themselves John even though they were not baptised as such. even 2 brothers who#s children were born within months of each other would give them the same christian name.

If I had an indexed listing (say name year of birth and permanent id ) which was sorted alphabetically then when i clicked on the link to go to the individuals data page I could be sure of which one it was by checking the id.

At present I and my family around the world tend to say "john born 1780" but which one? sometimes I have 3 or 4!!

As the ID is unique then we would soon revert to saying john ID xxxx and be sure we are talking about the same person.

I want to have it on all the pages the report generator creates in order to be sure that a person is identifiable any where on my website that he appears.   (http://www.duggleby.info)

thank you again

Ideally, the 'real' and baptised name should appear in the First Name label, with the name "John" appearing as a nickname

By typing Ctr T on a genomap, you will be presented with a table view of your database.  This can be sorted by clicking on the column heading. You can also sort by several columns, one at a time. Columns can also be hidden. This table can even be copied into an Excel database and manipulated there to provide you with a Reference Document if this is what you are looking for.

However if this does not satisfy your needs, then there would be no trouble including the Individual Id on the existing report, but because of the possible side effects we need to call on the talents of Ron, who wrote the English Narrative Report and is the best person to properly advise on its inclusion.

hello

Thank you. I have managed to pull off a reference document from the table and found this really useful but would like to do more.

I would still like to add the id to every occurance of a persons name in all of the pages. so will as you say, await with anticipation the return of Ron.

ellen

Thank you

Elly

You might need to think whether the GenoPro ID is what you need in the report. Unlike a standard database, the ID is not absolutely fixed to an individual. To demonstrate this, try the following.

1 Open the file and then the table; make sure the column showing ID is visible

2 Right click the heading and select the menu item 'Erase Column'. (You've got a backup - haven't you?)

3 Not to worry because you now have to 'Save As' eg idTest

4 You now have a different set of IDs

My thought is that it would be better to create a Custom Tag for this. Ron's XML toolkit will probably give you what you want; this is accessed from the Report Generator as a skin

Hi elly,
I've looked into your request and is was straightforward to modify the Narrative report to  produce what you requested. Just use the attached three template files in place of the original files in a customized report skin. The SVG solution is a compromise but will work OK providing you do not use 'tiny' or 'extra large' sizes for Individuals (gender icons).
