Yes, I have also used "metaconvert" but if you magnify the small print in the labels, you'll see that the antialiasing significantly blurrs some groups of letters.

If you have read this forum you may have read also that the size even of the labels can be set to 5 different sizes. Just tried those 5 sizes in a genomap with app. 200 individuals (12000 x 2300). All the individuals are set to the extra large size. Since this is the maximum size, you should not expect the label to be of different size. What I suggest then is to create SVG charts and edit these in Inkscape where you can make your own enlarged labels (if these are so important).
