Forgive me if this was already covered somewhere... I have several "cause of death" drop-down selections I would like to see available someday. Here are some examples of common major disease outbreaks that killed thousands in relatively recent history and other common causes of death that I use frequently and wish I didn't have to catagorize as "other Medical Problem":

  • Influenza (Spanish Flu, 1918)
  • Influenza (Asian Flu, 1957)
  • Influenza (Hong Kong Flu, 1968)
  • Bubonic Plague (Black Death)
  • Smallpox
  • Cholera
  • Typhoid
  • Tuberculosis (Consumption)
  • Typhus (Brain Fever, Camp Fever, Ship Fever)
  • Stroke (Apoplex / Apoplexy)
  • Encephalitis (Dropsy)
  • Epilepsy (Falling Sickness)
  • Dysentery (Flux)
  • Diptheria
  • Pneumonia (Lung Fever)
  • Measles
  • Pertusis (Whooping Cough)
  • Puerperal Fever (From Childbirth)
  • Scarlet Fever
  • Bright's Disease
  • Polio
  • Yellow Fever

I think a big (huge?) list of Cause of Death will not be helpful.  When a drop-down list is too long, it causes confusion to the user and makes it long for the user to search the "exact" cause of death.  Long lists are also more complicated to translate.

We want to group the cause of death by categories, similar as the professions have been regrouped in 16 industry sectors. The exact cause of death should go in the "specify field".

If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts.

As a suggestion, would it be possible to use a similar parent/child relationship for causes of death as you do for places? That way each user could gradually build up their own table of causes...

Cheers,

John
