| I am attempting to extend GenoPro's functionality using Perl, and I have been unable to find a reference on the format of the XML file. Everything I have done so far is reverse engineering. It was mentioned in the GenoPro for Macintosh topic that no such documentation exists, but that was several years ago. Has any documentation since been written? If so, where is it? If not, is this on a to-do list anywhere?

The GenoPro XML file is largely defined under GenoPro's Tools, Tag Definitons Menu Item. Some of the Tags listed are generated internally only, but the Export column together with visual inspection of a sample file should give you what you need.

| In that case, I have a question (and will probably find more as I go along). I am attempting to determine the order of the children even if the children do not have birth dates. For the moment, the only obvious way from looking at the XML is to compare the x-coordinates of the objects. According to the tag definitions, there is a Family.children.order tag. From looking at my XML, I can't tell that this tag exists. Is there a way to tell GenoPro to write all exportable tags?

If the child order is forced, then the tag appears in the XML: <Children Order="ind00003, ind00004"/>. I'm interested in the case where this tag does not appear. If the child order is not forced, but there are no birth dates, how does GenoPro know which child is first when it reads the file?

I think GenoPro use the visual position of the objects (x axis), most of the time childs are display left to right.
If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts.
