Unfortunately, this does occur in our current society---I would hope that some method of indication could be established to show continuity.

- Adding a new pedigree link type between the parent and the family (via color or line style)?

Would that be acceptable? Are there many cases where a parent loosing rights for some of their children?

I'm not sure who is in the decision role for this type of thing regarding the product but I wish to add some comments. The issue is material, "termination of Parental Rights" is a real issue and a bonifide ruling allowed by the courts.  If adoption and foster child pedigrees exist it is extremely appropriate this also be a pedigree (vs simply an emotional relationship).  This is part of the insanity of a court's proactive ruling (vs a parent's specific decision to do, generally for adoption purposes) as by definition it basically says - the court has declared the parties (a given parent / child) whos relationship exists solely as a function of God and the universe's law of creation have in fact -  no relationship.  And technically it can happen between just one parent of the union and one child (even if multiple children of the union) - thus the challenge in how to represent it in the genogram simply.    Having said that I offer it is best some additional thought be given to how best represent the situation.

What I will also suggest is the product's founders give very close attention and consideration to a specific relationship referred to as "parental alienation".  It is the far more common and frequently occurring condition - and it's recording and presentation would be of much value to many of the professional category users of this product.  While having been somewhat in the background for a few decades it is now unfortunately far more visible and garners much attention today. (jury is still out on whether to consider it a DSM recognized mental disorder or just simply criminal child abuse - or both).  It is a VERY REAL condition and plays a major role in genealogy or family history as in sever cases the child will completely disown or disavow any acknowledgement of the relationship with the biological parent or even the parents existence.

2) Emotional Relationship (how the people are connected emotionally)
3) Social Relationship (how people are related socially)

The "parental alienation" is not a Pedigree Link, so which one it is.  As for the termination of parental rights, I would suggest using the social relationship and specify the details in the properties.
