Looking for links to the Larkin family, originating in Marnellsgrove, Co Galway, Ireland. One branch of the family, headed by James Larkin (1803-1893) re-settled in Ballygalda, Co Roscommon, Ireland around 1830.  Several members had moved to New York by 1860 and were living in Manhattan.

I believe that Bridget McDermott Larkin (mother of James Larkin the labor leader) is the daughter of my great-great-grandparents Thomas McDermott and Eleanor Healey of Roscommon at least that is the family scuttle-butt.  My mother actual has a letter that my great-grandmother received talking about him (James Larkin) still being in jail.

If this is indeed the case then I can tell you that Thomas was born in Roscommon in 1820 and died in 1880 (still in Roscommon).  His father James's great-grandparents would have been Anthony (1770-1860) and Catherine McDermott.

I know it has been many years since your posting, but My name is Jerome Patrick Larkin.

I am the youngest of 4 great-grandsons of Patrick Larkin, born Roscommon County 1832.  So he would fit in age-wise as a son of your James Larkin.

The family lore was that Patrick sailed to America with a sister in the latter half of the 1840s when he would have been a teenager, but they lost each other on the docks and he never saw her again.  So, again, the general timing fits.

Patrick moved to Dunkirk, New York, and married a Joanna Healy.  They had six sons: William James [born 1862]; Daniel Lucien, Charles, Thomas, Minor, and Laurence who died very young

My father - William James Larkin, Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1890.  My elder brothers were born in 1933 and 1934, also in Chicago.

I would be fascinated to learn if we have any connections with the James Larkin of whom you wrote.  I have never heard of that particular town in Roscommon, but would be very interested in tracing down any roots that may have been planted there.
