There is a definition in the default Dictionary.xml file

<FmtHtmlHomeBrowser T="If you are using Internet Explorer and have GenoPro installed on your computer, you may click on this link to view the genealogy tree within your browser. . " />

I changed the code a little bit to produce German texture in the html this way

which now produces html like this in the home.htm

which still offers the download of the FamilyTree.gno file because if the frontend link is hovered in

it shows this address

http://www.erhardt-stiefel.de/stammbaum/english/FamilyTree.gno

but the Internet Explorer (IE7.0) offers a .zip file instead of a .gno !!!

I tried this also with different sources e.g. http://familytrees.genopro.com/maru-san/Juels/

from different servers with different PCs and different browsers with no locical results.

E.g. this html code looks exactly like mine

Falls Sie den Internet Explorer benutzen und haben GenoPro auf ihrem Rechner installiert, können Sie auf diesen Link klicken um sich den Gegenealogie Familienstammbaum innerhalb des Browsers anzuschauen.
and it produces the same

and when I hover the link it is alike

http://familytrees.genopro.com/maru-san/Juels/FamilyTree.gno

but the result is this

Who has an explanation for this behaviour of GenoPro 2.0.1.1 which was different in version 1.0?

It might be possible that the server you are using is not familiar with the gno format and is assuming it is a zip format, which is partially correct. Please check with your ISP.
I cannot try the download behavior due to the protection built in.

Internet Explorer 7 wants to download the .gno file instead of opening it. If you uncheck the option "Vor dem Offnen dieses Datetyps immer bestätigen", you may be able to see the .gno file in your browser.

By the way, a .gno file is a .zip file. If you rename the .gno file to .zip, you will be able to see the file Data.xml in an archiver. It is possible the browser has an automatic detection algorithm and discovers the file FamilyTree.gno is a zip archive.

My ie7 under XP opens the gno file as a compressed folder, even if you click out the tickmark.

We are considering 'removing' the .gno file from the report. When GenoPro was designed, back in 1997, it was a good idea, however the concept of Active X has become the nexus for viruses and trojans. As a result, Internet Explorer now blocks most Active X, including GenoPro.

The good news however is the reports now include the family tree in SVG format, so the need to have the .gno file in the report is less important as it used to be. Of course, we would still keep the .gno file in the report because it is a good 'backup' in case something happens, however we may not put a link to the .gno file from every individual.

I found out that the Problem is not server dependant by trying to download the FamilyTree.gno from a GenoPro server. It is possible but not as user friendly as in version 1.0 (I'm using IE7 and XP Pro)

Example:

This link http://familytrees.genopro.com/maru-san/Juels/FamilyTree.gno offers me a .zip file

Opening the file by clicking at the "Öffnen"-Button downloads a compressed Data.xml

Extracting this file an renaming to Familytree.gno gives the wanted result

I don't think that my relatives want to use this procedure to see the tree completely as it was possible by just one mouseclick before.

So maybe its just an Internet Explorer Option which has to be changed but which one?

This is because of Internet Explorer 7. I use Internet Explorer 6 and the file FamilyTree.gno opens in my browser directly from the link above.

By the way, we are working on a collaboration module, so your family will be able to view your .gno file directly from GenoPro. You will add the emails of the family members you wish to grant access, and the family membes will be able to open the .gno file.

Ok, that means in your next version you should remove the part in your default Dictionary.xlm which offers this possibility

<FmtHtmlHomeBrowser T="Those who use the Internet Explorer and have installed GenoPro 2.0 on their PC, may click to this link to download our familytree for offline viewing or to use it as a base for their own familytree." />

ie7 has changed several security settings. See Security Zone settings. Tools>Internet Options - Security
tab, "Open files based on content, not file extension".

By default this is enabled, so instead of using the extension itself ie7 would like to find out, what is in the file. For .gno ie7 correctly identifies as a compressed file.

However, even when you disable this option will not help, as in this case the pure text will appear in the frame: probably other settings must also be changed.

ie7 play the same, when tries to download .tgz: he renames it to .gz Sad

I think I may have found the solution to this problem. Perhaps your server doesn't recognize the .gno format. Since files are just files and the extension is just for identification purposes (i think), IE chooses to change it to a zip file for unknown file types. I found the solution from the "SVG and Firefox" thread. Here is the post from Sonnabend:

Sonnabend (1/30/2007)
(edit: removed initial response)

Whoops, I overlooked one line. The full .htaccess section should be:

# MIME Types

AddType image/svg+xml .svg
AddType image/svg+xml .svgz
AddType application/x-javascript .es
AddType application/octet-stream .gno
AddType image/x-emf .emf
AddType image/djvu .djvu
AddEncoding gzip .svgz <---this was what I missed

mod_gzip_on No

you may also want to look at this post from appleshaw for some background info:

appleshaw (2/25/2006)
If you are having problems displaying your .svg tree diagram from your own ISP web site, then the steps I have taken, following Ron's guidance, may give pointers. If your web is based on an Apache server, and they are in a majority, then this may solve your problems.

First identify the server. I used IDServe.exe from http://grc.com/id/idserve.htm. Paste the URL you use for your site into the program and it will tell you which system provides the host.

If it is Apache then I used the following file posted into the root of my web space.

AddType image/svg+xml .svg
AddType image/svg+xml .svgz
AddEncoding gzip .svgz

mod_gzip_on No

There was a slight problem with my Ftp program as the filename has to be ".htaccess". When I first transferred the file nothing seemed to happen. I then renamed it on my PC to a conventional file type, eg htaccess. htm which transferred with no problem. I then renamed the file to .htaccess and it appeared to disappear (perhaps I should say disappeared from sight). However it is obviously still there as the files can now be seen without the 'Parsing error' I had before.

If your web server is not Apache then you will need to look at the site given by Ron and follow a similar course. Go to http://wiki.svg.org/index.php?title=Server_Configuration.

Finally I think that FireFox 1.5 does not need any of the Adobe plug-ins. I have tried various combinations of the two Abobe dlls and also run without them. It does not seem to matter if they are there or not. However do not disable svg from about:config if the plug-ins are not present. A sure way to crash FireFox the second time you access an svg file

hope this helps. =D
