Partners and/or spouses are not "Direct Descendants", you have to click that button too to select all persons, if you want to have all members below a person for moving to another genomap.

Are you saying I have to click 2 buttons? If so, which ones are they?

Yes, the "direct descendant" button and the "mate" button.

If you have also ancestors within the descendants (i.e. from a spouse) and you want them to be included in the move action, you have to select "descendant tree" button, but even then the spouse of the top in line person has to be selected with the "mate" button.

Cool, Thanks maru-san.

Please excuse me for being such  a "pain".Blush. But I really like the program and still want to use it, IF I can sort out splitting databases.

Yes, the "direct descendant" button and the "mate" button.

but be carrefull on the order....

If you pick "direct ascendant" and then "mate" the direct ascendents of the wife will be not selected...

.... and you can repeat this process until you have what you are looking for.

Hi

I have been moving one line of my family tree to a new genomap and mostly it was successful, except for a few family members who have moved with their name printed in blue and they have a small blue square just above their names and alongside the circle or square denoting their sex. Pleasew00t can you tell me what this means and what I am doing wrong.

Many thanks
Jenny

You are not doing anything wrong. These are hyperlinks (see http://www.genopro.com/help/hyperlinks/) and mean that these individuals still have relatives on the original genomap. They provide a method of quickly navigating back and forth between branches split over two or more genomaps and show how the two branches are linked. To clear these, either move the rest of the family over or if required sever the link by deleting the corresponding individual on the original genomap,

Following this thread is the closest I have found to my problem. I viewed the video (more than once) on creating GenoMaps. I have been very successful in what I was attempting to do (breaking up a big tree) but now I seem to have run into an inconsistency in the results. I'm using Version 2.0.1.6. The tree was built almost ten years ago using version 1.7 I think.

Creating a GenoMap for my daughters first husband created the family for his tree and left him in the original tree, hyperlinked. Creating a GenoMap for her second husband worked the same.

Applying it to my wife worked the same. That is leaving her in the original tree, hyperlinked as the others were.

When I try to create a GenoMap for my sister's husband. It does not work. He is MOVED to the new GenoMap AND no link is made since he no longer exists in the original tree. If I include her in the link (click Mate) the tree in the new GenoMap is built with her as the link but he is removed from the original so the marriage no longer shows in the original tree.

A similar issue arises for a half sister of mine when I try to create a new GenoMap for her mother. The Mother and her child and the child's mate all go to the new GenoMap but no link is built and she (the mother) only appears in the new GenoMap. If I include my father he gets a link but the first marriage does not show in the original tree. Both marriages show for my daughter, both show for my wife? The mate is simply hyper linked. When I built my mother's GenoMap for her family it worked fine. She remains in the original tree and is a hyperlink.

The process seems to work for my daughter's marriages but one generation up the tree from her it does not seem to work consistently (for me, anyway).

I have found it difficult to follow exactly what order to click the icons for including people when the tree has any size to it. Is it just me or does it actually make a difference?

This is a case where it is difficult to analyse what is happening without seeing the processes being carried out in real time. However, reading your comments, I wonder whether you are attempting to create hyperlinks when selecting more than one individual at a time. Hyperlinks are limited to a single individual for each instance - if you wish to link more than one individual you have to set up hyperlinks separately for each individual. You cannot hyperlink the Family or Descendent lines.

I am not trying to create hyperlinks. They are created as a result of building a new GenoMap to move a part of the original tree to its own page for increased readability.

My focus on the hyperlink was because that is where the process fails me.

When the GenoMap is built for my fathers first wife her tree is moved to the new GenoMap but no link is built to get back to the original tree. Her name is literally moved off the page. When the GenoMap is built for my fathers second wife, my mother, the hyperlink is built and even though her tree is moved to the new GenoMap her name remains in the original tree with the hyperlink as does the marriage.
