I have been gathering genealogy information, rather then entering it in GenoPro, for some time now.  GenoPro has undergone some major improvements since I last used it but I have now come across what appears to be a bug.  A number of members of several families have been found in early US census reports living at the same address.  After entering the address for the first time on the Contacts tab for the main householder, I have used the Pick button for other family members who were living there.  While this worked fine initially, the software later (for some reason that I have been unable to identify - i.e. I have not yet been able to identify a pattern) split the Contact details between the various family members.  I have therefore ended up with several Contacts all with the same address but with different References.  This results in incorrect Reports and also means that the Comments are no longer shared.  Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

It is highly possible.  Early versions of GenoPro were merging identical contacts and other objects (sources, places, pictures).  The problem of merging identical records is when the user changes the object, all references to that object are updated.  On the flip side, the user may wish to update the contact information for a particular individual without affecting the other individuals.

I wrote a post about it in the past, however I cannot find it.  I searched my best and still I cannot find the thread.

If you have suggestions to improve the situation, feel free to post your comments.

The problem with the new approach is that the resulting reports for individuals sometimes omit contact details (i.e. details of where they lived), apparently at random, even though the details are entered in respect of the individual in the Genomap.  The reports are therefore wrong, which starts to defeat the object of the whole exercise.  This need to be addressed urgently please as this problem has brought me to a complete stop and people are awaiting an updated report from me.

Another request please: the Contact dialogue box provides start and end dates but, with information obtained from census reports, one only has an "as at" date.  Could the Report generator be programmed to state "on" instead of "from" and "to" if (for example) the two dates were the same?  There may be clearer ways to achieve this.

In my experience Contact information that is shared between individuals only becomes split (i.e. a separate Contact record is created for one of the references to the shared Contact) when you edit the Contact data via the Contact Tab on the Individual's Property dialogue. To ensure that Contact data remains shared by all the individuals, only edit that data via the Table Layout - Contacts... Menu item. You can right click on an entry and select Properties to display the Contact Properties dialogue (or press Enter or click the 'properties' icon)

I really like your suggestion of reporting a date as 'on' (or 'in' if only month or year present) when both start and end are the same. I will see if this can be included in the Narrative & Descendants Reports.

Once you have multiple contact entries which are identical - is there any way to merge them ? Rather stupidly I've been typing my contact details in rather than use the pick function and now I have 100's of duplicate contacts. At present I'm manually going to each individual, deleting the contact, then picking from the list. I've been doing that for 3 hours now, and have barely covered 5% of what needs correcting, and now I'm getting worried I'm introducing errors.

Also pleased to see the a request for the narrative report deal with census info. There are 2 places a change to the narrative would be useful - occupation and contact : 1. In 1851 he was working as a coal miner. 2. In 1851 he was living at Cornsey Colliery.

You can merge identical records using the Table Layout.  This feature is hidden into the Consolidate context menu.

1. Bring the Table Layout (Ctrl+T)
2. Click on the icon Contacts to display all the contacts in the Table Layout.
3. Select which records you want to merge.  Tip: Hold down the Shift or Ctrl key while clicking to select multiple contacts.
4. Right click to bring the context menu, and select Consolidate Contacts.  GenoPro will merge all selected contacts into the contact having the focus (the selection rectangle).

The following is a screenshot taken to consolidate pictures:
