Using ZipGenius 6 I have no problem. Is there a problem with the installation of WinZip 9?

Thank you for your kind comment.  I've downloaded and unzipped succesfully other zip-files earlier ie. I've got this version installed a long time.

I have tried the links to the latest Narrative report and they point to HTM files in the forum, not ZIP files.

This would cause WinZip to give the 'not a valid archive' message.

I hope I am not being thick, but this whole question of photos/thumbnails not appearing in reports seems to have become exraordinarily complicated.

If you disable thumbnails in the HTM dropdown window during the report process the pictures come up OK. it could be useful for this to be the default setting or for it to retain the settings with the GNO file or the Narrative Report Skin.

I am now going in search of the 'irfanview' program.

Genopro is still the best, but choice can lead to confusion. :-)

OK is someone watching?

I checked the download links again and they point to zip files now.

Or was it the hand of Microsoft messing with us.

I shall now go and play ZIP files

In reply to Jarmo's email may be of use to others.

Hi JarmoThanks for your care. I downloaded it and unzipped it, found the skins directory and put it there. After that, no progress.GenoPro desn't seem to keep its other skins in the same place and the format of a modified skin, with its sub directories looked so different that I thought I must have got it wrong and gave up. I did have success in locating and installing both IrfanView and Inkscape which got it all working on default values, phew!! thanks again Tony P.S.Creation of Thumbnails with Irfanview, speeds up the web experience of our large family tree very well.

It is a shame that after downloading the latest skin you did not use it. GenoPro holds its default Report skins compressed within the GenoPro.exe file, and so are not immediately visible as a set of files. If you click the 'New Skin' button on the GenoPro 'Generate Report' button then GenoPro will unpack its compressed version of a skin intoi a set of folders and files in the 'skins' folder. They are in the same format as the modified skin you downloaded. Both intertnal skins within GenoPro.exe and external skins in the skins folder appear into the drop down list of the Generate Report dialogue.

The problem with thumbnails without Irfanview installed is bug that was only detected after GenoPro 2.0.1.6 was released but a corection was issued soon afterwards via this forum.

Unfortunately as yet GenoPro Inc. have not incorporated the revised skin in GenoPro itself Sad  despite several requests. Hence the many posts on this forum with problems such as yours.

The latest release of the skin will save any changes to Config Params for subsequent runs.

The only problem with downloading skins I am aware of is that a you must be logged into the forum with a proper user id, not as a guest and not with the  'numbers only' user id allocated by GenoPro.

Let me explain why the new skins are not incorporated into the latest version of GenoPro.  The problem is I am unable to rebuild GenoPro 2.0.1.6.  I do have full backups of the C++ code, however other things (such as toolbar icons, graphics, documents) are incrementally backed up, and the order of icons in the toolbars have changed many times.  In December 2007, I released my first demo of GenoPro Gamma.  In my configuration file, I was using #define CONFIG_GENOPRO_GAMMA and used #ifdef CONFIG_GENOPRO_GAMMA to distinguish the new code for GenoPro Gamma, so I can exclude it if I need to recompile GenoPro 2007.

The following versions of GenoPro have been released between GenoPro 2007 2.0.1.2 and 2.0.1.6:

17-Nov-2007 2.0.1.2 Improvements to the phrase editor
16-Dec-2007 2.0.1.3 Fixed a printing issue

16-Jan-2008 2.0.1.4 Out of sync: Translation of GenoPro
08-Apr-2008 2.0.1.5 Out of sync: new localized languages and improvements to the report generator
14-Sep-2008 2.0.1.6 Out of sync: improvement to the social entity.  This version is the last of the GenoPro 2007 series.
13-Mar-2010 2.0.1.6(b) Recompilation of the setup program to fix a compatibility issue on Windows 7.

09-Dec-2007 2.1.0.0 Early demo of GenoPro Gamma
15-Feb-2008 2.2.0.0 New code for drawing individuals with Monica's legend
07-Mar-2008 2.2.0.1 Special version for Monica McGoldrick with the horizontal and vertical lines within the gender symbol
16-Apr-2008 2.3.0.0 Added ArrowStyle to the polygon/shape
20-Apr-2008 2.3.0.1 Fixed some issues with the polygon and other drawing stuff.
07-May-2008 2.0.1.5 Silent update of 2.0.1.5 - This is probably final build for GenoPro 2007 because it is very complicated to rebuild this old version.
22-May-2008 2.4.0.0 Special version for Monica McGoldrick with reference date per GenoMap
16-Jun-2008 3.g1     First "Gamma" version
16-Aug-2008 3.g2     Code for the "External Storage" to store a genogram in a third party database
14-Sep-2008 2.0.1.6 Improvement to the social entity.  This version is the last of the GenoPro 2007 series.
29-Oct-2008 2.4.0.1 Build for Monica with draft dialogs
05-Nov-2008 2.4.0.2 Special build for Monica, with many minor improvements
06-Nov-2008 2.4.0.3 Special build for Monica, with many minor improvements, however tweaking some "improvements" made in 2.4.0.2
11-Jan-2009 2.4.0.4 Special update for Kinark hospital
27-Jul-2009          2.4.0.5 Special build for Monica, with the symbols for multiple cultures and immigration
12-Aug-2009 2.5.0.0 Added the CHouseholdInfo class
19-Oct-2009 2.5.0.1 Added the Added XXL, XXXL and XXXXL font sizes to OBJECT_SIZE_ENUM
19-Nov-2009 2.5.0.2 Added Psyritual emotional relationship, plus toolbars buttons for Monica, and dialog to open inbox and backups
26-Jan-2010 2.5.0.3 Display pictures inside of the CLabelInfo and CSocialEntityInfo object
16-Feb-2010 2.5.0.4 Added text outline flag for the label
11-Mar-2010 2.5.0.4b,c,d,e: Four updates to attempt to fix the GenoMaps not working on Windows 7.
13-Mar-2010 2.0.1.6(b)  Recompilation of the setup program to fix a compatibility issue on Windows 7.

The last compilation of GenoPro 2.0.1.6 on September 14, 2008 was a very tedious process.  Since I had been adding code for GenoPro Gamma for several months, I had to temporary remove significant code to compile GenoPro 2.0.1.6.  Of course, commenting out code is very risky to create bugs, and the goal of releasing GenoPro 2.0.1.6 was to fix a minor bug, not create a dozen new more already in GenoPro Gamma.  Every time I made a fix in GenoPro, I risk creating a new bug. Also, I spent several days testing 2.0.1.6 to make sure it was a stable build.

After releasing 2.0.1.6, I started adding new code into GenoPro Gamma, knowing this new code will break compatibility with GenoPro 2007.  For instance, in GenoPro Gamma any object may be displayed in Extra Extra Large, Huge and Jumbo.  Of course, this will break in the report generator if one tries to generate an SVG of a label of Jumbo size.  As a result, I decided to stop updating GenoPro 2.0.1.6 and focus on the Gamma core features, including the collaboration module.  Also, Monica McGoldrick is publishing two books (one is already available in pre-sale on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0393706273/amazonbook021-20/ which will include a CD of GenoPro).  I have spent some time to improve the quality of the output for printing quality genograms (family trees).

The deadline to submit the Gold Master CD to W. W. Norton publishing is the beginning of this November.  All changes made for this version are not wasted, as they will go mainstream to GenoPro Gamma.

After the release of the Gold Master CD, I will complete this Collaboration Module so we can start testing it on a larger scale.  I will also improve the report generator to generate built-in thumnails and add new methods/functions necessary to produce new skins and automatically download and install new report skins.  By the way, I have a dialog named CReportGeneratorSkinDownloadDlg created in 22-Jul-2001 with the following description: Dialog to download skins from the GenoPro server.  Of course the code was never completed, however you see the idea of having automatic download and installation of report skins has been in my mind for a while.

I am working full time on GenoPro.  I get a lot of phone calls from users.  We have over 700,000 registered users in our database, and the number is growing about 500 per day.  Tonight, I am working on fixing bug I just discovered this morning regarding the display of pictures in the family tree.  Under very rare circumstances, the pictures still show in black.  It is very rare bug since buggy code was written in January 2010 and I just discovered this bug, despite the fact I use GenoPro almost every day.

Thanks for that full explanation Dan, it is much clerer to me now.

I have a development version of the Narrative Report skin that may help alleviate matters eventually. It already handles the additional sizes in Gamma and most of the other new features (e.g. households, secrets, outlined text, pictures on the genomap). This will be compatible with both 2.0.1.6 and 2.5.x.x. Hopefully there will be a way to release this in the 2.0.1.6 executeable (as a binary patch perhaps) without the need to recompile.

It also uses Google Maps API v3, removing the requirement for an API key.

The major issue at present is getting SVG pan and zoom to work correctly with all the major browsers w00t. Once I can resolve this issue I will release it.

As soon as I ship the master CD to Norton Publishing, I will release the first Gamma with the new skins.  This way, people will be able to test the new reports simply by downloading and installing GenoPro Gamma.
