I am sure this option is available, but.....
What I should like to do is obtain a list of people all alive in a particular year --say 1750.
I have several generations - back to 1600. not all with death dates confirmed, so I guess they would show even if they were actually dead.
so , is this 'sort' possible, and simply to apply? |

One facility that might give you something useful is within the table. Try:-
Open table (Ctrl+T)
check you have date of death and birth columns.
Sort on death and then select person with first date in 1750.
Move to the foot of the table, hold down Shift key and select last person to highlight this group.
Right click and the Hide Individuals.
Sort on birth and repeat process to select and hide those born after 1750 (You have the option to include or exclude those with no birth data)
Select the rest of the table, Ctrl+A and all will be selected on the display.
You could copy this to a new display by using Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+N followed by Ctrl +V, although you will have to experiment if you have multiple genomaps

This sounds as complicated as listing everyone and ticking off manually.
Is there no time line facility on the programme. I dont use things like emotions, or illness -after all what do i know about my relatives in 1780? But this would have been helpful it trying to understand the movement of people from one town to another in the times of famine and disease. Thanks anyway for answering.

The timeline events in its proper display needs to be clarified, as opposed to the present display in the Narrative display and in the Descendant report.
A timeline in the Narrative report shows all events with regard to date and sorted that way. However the present display of events, such as occupancy, education and occupation are sorted as those and do not show the proper sequence of events. This way to display events comes from the establishments of CV for hiring people.
A proper way would be to list certain events as sub-events, such as occupation as sub-event of an occupancy/residence and a business trip as a sub-event of an occupational event. This means the top events are the occupancy/residence events. Educational events are sub-events. However there are a few things to clarify: Is the residence a registered occupancy with the city office or just a temporary residence. In this case this temporary residence is a sub-event of a registered residence. This is very often the case when you study somewhere without giving up your primary residence.
I do not see in the near future that there will be any change in the present version of Genopro, but may a consideration in the next version(GenoproX). Any comments?

I can see this facility would be useful for some defined purpose.
However, for someone using GenoPro merely as a table /chart of descendants and ancestors, much of the options are surplus to my requirement. As previously stated those facts are not available to me. There is little enough coverage of BMD in 1700 so anything else is a bonus. The most I can expect from current historical records are BMD , location, trade & occupations. Occasionally military or political affiliations. So perhaps I should look for a simpler programme. Thank you

I have been tracing my ancestry for twelve years now, and GenoPro is by far the simplest program I have found, in terms of ease of use and appearance. All other genealogy programs that I have used have been far more graphic-interface-intensive, and far higher-overhead in terms of system resource usage, than GenoPro, and ironically do not give me the same flexibility of tree display that I have with GenoPro. I understand your frustration with looking up people by dates, and I would like to see this facility (as well as being able to look up individuals by position on the GenoMap) in a future version as well; I am trying to format my tree as I go so that I have people born in the same decade at the same Y position, and this has been far more easily said than done. However, my searches for other programs (and I performed a number of them a year and a half ago when GenoPro was temporarily sidelined by the developers) did not come up with any other software that met these needs, so I have stayed with GenoPro. It is my hope that the developers will see that such capabilities will mesh nicely with their larger plans for GenoPro as a multi-purpose program for genealogy and other disciplines.

I suppose I have been using Geno pro since 2006, mainly becuse I like the layout of boxes and being able to post little notes on to the various pages.
For me it is the visual layout that is attractive. I use it -as I would draw it out. I dont use all its facilities by any means, i just take what i need. So I always feel that i am not using all the options I could. Being able automatically to list all the people on my tree, that are alive on one particular year would be great. But I may find doing that easier manually. Thanks again for you comments and suggestions.

There are some free third party tools out there that provide this functionality.
First, export your tree from Genopro using the Export as GEDCOM functionality. I believe there are 2 ways of doing this ... one is under File ... Export as GEDCOM ... the other is by running a report and creating a GEDCOM. It's been a few months since I've done this and am typing on my phone, so you'll have to play around to figure out which one is better. (I think it's generating a report, but not 100% sure) Second, google Geneaquilts (sp?). It provides a different type of family tree visualization, as well as a timeline of when certain ancestors were all alive. Documentation is limited, and you'll have to read the forums to see how to properly install the application. It's got some cool built-in features for highlighting co-sanguinity. Import your Gedcom file. You'll get various errors you can ignore when importing. In the upper right is a date field.
