When I last used Genopro in 2015 it worked fine. Tried to generate a report last week and it went to error (posted error elsewhere on this site but no response). Tried to update Skin, but still receive following error "Error at line 67: invalid procedure, call or argument:'[string:"(null)"]'. Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A0005

Please, is there anything I can do to resurrect this software??

That error suggests to me that you are trying to use a very old, un-updated version of the Narrative Report skin released with GenoPro 2011, however your profile here indicates you have GenoPro 2018 (version 3.0.1.4)

Please ensure you are using the correct Report Skins folder.  The Narrative Report should appear in the list as {EN} Narrative Report.  If you re-install GenoPro 2018 then it should install these skins in the folder ypou have previously specified under the Options tab of theTools / Generate Report menu item.

There is an update to the Report Skins for GeniPro 2016 & GenoPro 2018 here Updated Report Skins for GenoPro 2016/2018  that I recommend you also install.

Thank you. Yes, I upgraded to latest version today. I then downloaded the Skins version you recommended. The Generate process seemed to work and I can open address online. However, if I select 'Trees' or any other menu item, nothing happens?
Thx John

When I look at your familytrees report all appears to working fine, so perhaps you have a browser cacheing issue.

However I have three observations.

Firstly you do not apear to have fully applied the update.  The 'Narrative Common' folder within your skins folder is still the old version from 2018.03.15. This is shown on the bottom line of the home page of your report.  If you correctly copy over the Narrative Common folder it should show as 2018.08.29.

Secondly the Individual index page looks strange because within your .gno file you have put spaces in front of the surname. You probably now realise that the heading Family Name / Maiden Name / Surname gives alternatives and is not meant to be used as an alignment guide

To remove all these superfluous spaces proceed as follows :

Export your .gno file to xml Format using the GenoPro menu File then Export then Export as XML Format..
Then open your xml file with Notepad and use the menu item Edit then Replace and then under Find what type   and click Replace All

Save the amended .xml file and then open it with GenoPro.  You should find that all the extra spaces are gone. If you are happy with resave as a .gno file.

Lastly I would recommend putting a password on your report.

Many thanks for that, it all seems to work now. Regarding spacing in names, I think it is sometimes handy to know the maiden name as well? So far as getting the latest version of skins, I was inclined to take an "if it aint broke, don't fix it" approach - if I encounter problems will update to the latest. Yes, I temporarily removed password so that it could be tested. Thanks again, John.
