I have Genopro 3.1.0.0 and am generating a Narrative report using {EN} Narrative Report (2020.03.13).

I get an error :

[4.03] Error Custom Tag '{0}' is invalid as it is subordinate to a GenoPro Date field, Dates may be reported incorrectly.Tag should be renamed using the Tag Editor e.g. 'DATE' renamed to 'DAT_' or tag deleted if not required.

The problem I have is I cannot identify and sort out the offending tag.   How do I locate the offending tag - there are a number of tags with names like "custom_tag1" but they all appear to be standard Genopro tags.

tags imported from Gedcom that are not processed by GenoPro get set up as custom tags but are not placed in a custom tag layout and so are not visible under Tools/Tag Editor but do appear under Tools/Tag Definitions .  If you scroll to the bottom of Tag Definitions for say Individuals you will see tags with X in  User Defined column. Look for tag that has Date. in its name e.g. Birth.Date.Quay.

To completely remove such a tag go to Table Layout / Individuals and look for the column with that tag, right click the column and choose 'Delete Custom tag Birth.Date.Quay'   If there is no column with the required tag right click on a column heading and choose properties, then tick the tag's entry to include it in the display so that it can be deleted.

Thanks for the information,  I have removed all "Custom" tags, though mostly they were of type "Text" rather than "Date".   These seem to have come from a Gedcom import at some time and seem to be LDS specific.

I always close and re-load after deleting tags to make sure that any automatic tidying up is done before retrying the report.   Despite this I'm still getting the error message.

I've checked Individuals, Families, Unions, Places for custom fields and all I have found are some generic named ones - custom_tag1 , 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Any further ideas on how I can locate and purge the offending tag ?

It will be there somewhere. All custom tags are of type Text but this one will be subordinate to a Date field such as Birth.Date or Death.Date.

Have you looked at all individual & family tags with X in 'User Defined' column in Tools / Tag Definitions?

If you still can't find it then create a new empty .gno file and copy a single unimportant individual from your problem .gno to the empty one.

This will copy all your custom tags too.  Then send the small .gno to me, genome, using GenoPro's built-in File / Send feature.

I will take a look and get back to you.

Just some further thoughts on this. The message may be a red-herring and not actually causing a problem.  The message suggests you rename a tag DATE to DAT_  note the uppercase DATE, GenoPro date tags are all leading caps i.e. Date

The reporting of this error in the report skin could be better in order to easily identify the tag concerned.  But I now recall an issue with Gedcoms that have the CHAN tag with DATE below it and then TIME. GenoPro imports this as CHAN.DATE.TIME and I believe that this tag should not be a problem and so the error message can be ignored. I'll look into tightening the validation to avoid this confusion.

Thanks for the info - I did what you suggested and created a mini-file then unzipped it and looked at the xml - it was then easy to locate the tags that were under SourceCitations.   One was called "DATE" the other "DATA.DATE" I'll clean up some others now I've found an easy way to locate them.

I had thought of examining the original as xml but the size of the thing put me off.

I've only just realised that if I had displayed the properties for the file and looked at "statistics" it would have pointed me to which Object Types had custom tags and how many.     Places and Sources & Citations were the only ones and that should have prompted me to investigate them better.   I though I was looking for a tag with a data type of "date" so probably missed them.

Many thanks for giving me the pointer to sort it out for myself.
