Hello, I am starting my GenoPro journey. I have installed a 16 day licence key. Does this licence allow me to import a gedcom file. I have tried this and have had no errors. The text window shows:
Opening file 'C:\Roots Magic 8 Beta\Gedcom\test.ged'...
Reading file 'C:\Roots Magic 8 Beta\Gedcom\test.ged'...
Detected Gedcom document with Charset='UTF-8' (Code Page=65001)
Importing using Code Page 65001 known as 'Unicode (UTF-8)'
Validating data...
[Import Summary]
   2 Places
Import complete with 0 errors!

I cannot see any of my tree. I understand I should not see all my generations but what am I doing wrong.

I have tried a V7 Roots Magic file and this is OK. I will go back to Roots Magic for a V8 fix.

Your import summary says "2 Places" which, if that is all in the gedcom, will not show on screen. If you press Ctrl+T this will open the table containing all of the data.

Hello,
Roots Magic has updated their software after reporting the GEDCOM Export bug.
Currently using 7.9.235.0 and the GEDCOM file was imported and changed to a .gno file.
I had to move/change/edit the family tree and now every generation is in the correct place under the correct parents.
Still work to do but it was a good start and only 3 evenings work.

Is there a way of setting my family tree to page size to A0 but printing my tree in 16 x A4 pages.

I would like to set my page size to A0 841mm x 1189mm. (33.4 x 46.8 inches)
Then set a grid to show the A4 edges of 210mm x 297mm  (8.3 x 11.7 inches) within the A0 page.
Therefore the A0 page size is divided into 16 equal pages.
I could then use the grid to move my families so that a family member does not straddle two pages.
Once this is completed I can print 16 pages that make up my tree or separate pages if I wish.

I have tried this by setting the Page Layout dimension on Genomap1below.

I see that I can set the page layout to A0, by setting the paper dimension of 46.8 x 33.4 inches

The problem is that I cannot set the Scale % to 100 and also set the horizontal pages to 4 and the vertical pages to 4. They seem to interact between themselves and jump to specific Horizontal Page and Vertical Page numbers.

I have seen that when you Display Page Layout (under View) and scroll in at the top of the page you see the Printer Aspect Ratio. As shown below

Please can you advise if this can be achieved. Perhaps there is another way to achieve printing your tree to multiple A4 pages so that it is readable and what you see on your monitor is what is actually printed.

Thanks

As you want to print on A4 pages leave the physical page size at A4 dimensions and then adjust the scaling to get the best fit on 4 x 4 A4 pages

e.g.

Thank you for the details above.

I changed my Paper Dimensions to A4 size as above but I must admit that I could not set the Scaling to give a 4 x 4  as displayed.
With Scaling = 80 I found that I had H = V = 6.

I did this by moving a single person to be near the blue dotted line (Aspect Ratio), the blue line then moved to be near the edge of the A4 page.
I then checked the same method (using a single person so that the Aspect Ratio was the largest to suit the A4 pages.
This gave me the 6 x 6 but my tree fitted to 6H x 4V.

I sample printed one page just to see that it was readable. It was so I moved all my family groups so that they printed on the page and not at the edges. I now can print a large tree on  A4 paper and plenty of Sellotape.
Brilliant, family tree printed to multiple pages of  A4.

If I wanted a professional A0 print, this was going to cost 65.00 UKP.

Thank you for your  support.

Here is my Page Layout:

Unless you have special needs eg post overseas, then you can get an A0 poster for less than £20. I used instantprint.co.uk. - no connection to them but they did a good job and helped me out when I got in a mess.
When I printed on A4 I did not attempt to move people except where a name was on a join. The advantage of course is you can update directly
Also 'invest' in a reel of upmarket tape instead of the basic stuff. Scotch Magic tape is almost invisible and in addition you can lift it (carefully) without damaging the paper. There is a Sellotape equivalent. Another advantage is that it does not yellow or harden with age

Thanks again with the printing tips. I need to get the tree correct before sending this to a printer.
I have modified my tree as a couple of the head of household were widowers and re-married. They then had their own children.

I wondered why some of my other family members needed moving as they now straddled a page break. I now think this is to do with a change of the Aspect Ratio. I think I added persons so the Aspect Ration moved but I was not aware of this while carrying out the editing. Is was only when I saw I had to move some of my family members that I remembered the interaction of the Aspect Ratio if a family member was moved over the Aspect Ration boundary.

I see that the page breaks are fixed but if you change the aspect ration (blue hash lines) it does change the whole tree and moves this so the page breaks can straddle family member icons.

Therefore if you add further families to your tree there is a good chance that the Aspect Ration will change. Hence you have to check each page break so that the families print correctly. Perhaps if the Aspect Ratio was fixed so it was at the maximum boundary of the multiple A4 pages it my help

At the moment if you move the Aspect Ration then you must check all page boundaries.

I struggled with this as well.

What I ended up doing was creating an outline box, using the "New Horizontal Line" tool, that takes up the full printable area for a standard piece of paper, and then rearranging each family group inside that box

For an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper with half inch margins, the box is 19 x 14 grid lines.  Not sure what it is for standard European paper sizes.

You have to go back and forth between Printer Setup and Page Layout to get right settings.

Here's a screenshot of 4 x 4 pages, but using Letter not A4 sizing, and I've circled the New Horizontal Line tool in red.

Change the colour of the outline boxes to white or transparent when you are done so they don't show up when printed.  The outline boxes appear as the dotted lines just inside each separate page.  You change the paper layout to Landscape in Printer Setup if you want it to appear this way.
