I just noticed this... and I'm surprised that I couldn't find a previous post on it... I can't find a place to put my mother's Catholic confirmation name!

There's no field for it in religious record, and none of the "name" fields on the "General" tab seems appropriate.

I tried hijacking one of the name fields to use as confirmation name, but each one put the names in the wrong order. I don't know if my mom is weird, or if it's the standard (I'm not Catholic and I don't know much about the naming standards for confirmation names), but I've been told that my mom's way is right:

First Middle Confirmation Last

I can't use the nickname field because, despite the fact that it's the 3rd entry field on the window, it places the name as the 2nd name when printed out (should the entry field be moved?). I could use "Alternate" name, but that sounds like an alias to me... and it doesn't reflect in the full name printed out.

What about the "Second Last Name?"

Confirmation name is first name, not last.
So sometimes it happens that someebody has three first names, like my sisters, actually :D

Yeah, I noticed it some time ago, but for many persons in my file I just don't know the name and haven't went so deep in research yet.

In Roman Catholic Church in some countries it is common to get and sometimes godparents even insist on taking third name...
It is not recorded in civic papers, only in religious records (AFAIK)...

I agree about the first name part... it's not a last name, and second last name doesn't place the name in the right place (it tacks it on to the end in parentheses instead of immediately after the middle name).

Well, if you guys explain to me exactly how it works, I am willing to make the changes. I need you to give me examples of names and how to document each field. Do you need a "second first name", or a "second middle name" or something else? Myself, I come from a different background. My full name is "Daniel Morin". I don't have any middle name, prefix, suffix or initials. My friends call me "Dan", so I would consider "Dan" as my nickname.

Here's an example.

My mother was born Katherine Grace Corbett. First, middle, surname.

She had her Catholic confirmation, and as part of that, took on the confirmation name of Marie. Her new name is:

Katherine Grace Marie Corbett.

She married my father, Kevin Lenz, so her full name (including maiden) would be:

Katherine Grace Marie (Corbett) Lenz. (but, generally, I guess we don't show the married name in the family tree, so this last example pro'ly doesn't apply).

Confirmation doesn't fit in the "first" or "given" name, obviously. It doesn't fit in the middle b/c a.) her middle name is Grace, not Marie, and b.) it would show up as Kathrine Marie Grace Corbett, which is wrong. It doesn't fit in the nickname b/c, again, it would put it in the wrong place, and it's not a nickname anyway. It doesn't fit in second last name because it's not a last name, nor would it be put in the right place.

I see. Would it be better to put this name in the "Baptism" section?

While the name is based on a religious ceremony and I'm not sure if most people actually use the name as part of their real name, it doesn't belong in the Baptism section simply because Confirmation occurs typically much later than Baptism.

Again, I'm not Catholic so I don't know, but I think it's usually around the early- to mid-teen years.

Actually, just talking to a coworker, some branches will do it at Baptism... Regardless, I guess the answer is, despite when it occurs, it's pretty separate from Baptism and probably doesn't belong in that section.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in a block of confirmation data (place, date, etc) enough for you to add everything. I'm not... I just want the name.

It might be under religious records...

Bigger problem with confirmation is that there could be almost as many data as for baptism...

Confirmation Name:
Witness/godparent:
Performer (bishop or somebody with a license):
Date
Place
And some Note about catechist (person(s) that performs preparations for confirmation). (not necessarily)

This data it should be noted (might be found) in parish of baptism in columns next to baptism - as it is obligation of persons performing confirmation to notify parish of baptism.

BTW. For those who are not informed, Confirmation is one of the 7 holy sacraments of RCC and represents willing entrance of grown person in community of believers.

(as I think of it, for after ver 2.0 there might be under religious records, data about fulfilling those sacraments (date/time performer), but that might be splitting hair)

Speaking on reliagious properties:
The Religious record is missing all the Jewish properties like the Mohel Rabbi who performed the Brith, the synagogue, Brith Date.
I guess that the muslims are missing their events, too.

Is there a way to toggle the labels of the fields according to religion ?
let the user select the person's religion and according to that to show the labels.
Can it be done?
