Which version of GenoPro are using? Can you send me a sample file (.gno & .xml) and I will look at the problem.

I have just discovered that whenever I close and save the programme it duplicates copies, I have accumalated 9 versions in 3 operations of this. Each time you save, GenoPro creates three copies for backup purpose. If you have 9 files, it is because you performed a Save As 3 times.
I am using genopro beta 2.0. Can you be more specific? Only the Beta is capable to display places and sources. I need to know the exact beta version. The version is in the About box.

One of the Beta in the early 13 series had a bug where the places and sources would not fully import. Don't worry, you have not lost the places or sources. Those places and sources are stored in the XML file and are not binded to a particular field (place of birth, place of death) when being imported. If you use the Table Layout, you will see all the places and sources are there. You can assign an existing place using the "Pick Place" (Ctrl+K) within the dialog.
If you use GenoPro 2.b13h, it should import fine because all the info is there in the XML file. You need to use your original .xml file that had the places and open it using 2.b13h.

| I have just update the beta version to 2.b15e and have come across the same problem as an earlier user - all my placenames have disappeared. I had a look at table view as you suggested and they are not there either! Any ideas? Do I need to put them all in again (!) or is there a fix? Thanks

| I have also lost ALL the place names and the source information from the boxes. I have checked back to some of the 'saved' documents and find the missing information is still there (saved about a month ago). Is there any way of copying this to my latest document to avoid having to re-enter the relevant data manually?

| I logged onto this site to see if my own questions about losing data from the Beta files (I am using the latest update in Beta), namely data regarding place of birth, death, information source, etc, could be answered. I found the hints of use, and appreciate that I am not the only one making the same mistakes. Thank you for a great program that is certainly making the task more enjoyable. Jennifer

| I have updated to version 2.0.0.1 but appear to have lost most of the information stored under each individual. Please can you help me retrieve hours of work! I am completely non-technical so please keep your reply simple. Thanks

*gallop* (3/22/2007) I have updated to version 2.0.0.1 but appear to have lost most of the information stored under each individual. Please can you help me retrieve hours of work! I am completely non-technical so please keep your reply simple. ThanksI presume you used GenoPro Beta and upgraded to GenoPro 2007. You probably opened a "v1x.gno" file which does not contain all the data. Try to locate the original .gno file, or better the .xml file of your family tree.

| I was using Genopro1.99c and recently upgraded to version 2007. I have lost all the data in the comments boxes, which is where I kept infomrmation about place of birth and addresses in the censuses etc. Fortuantely, I still have copies of my files in Genopro1.99c. Is there anyway to get around this?

REMFirth (3/12/2008) I have lost all the data in the comments boxes, which is where I kept infomrmation about place of birth and addresses in the censuses etc. This is because you used GenoPro 1.99c to open a .v1x.gno file. GenoPro 1.99c cannot store a place of birth nor an addresse, so it is impossible you lost those values upgrading from 1.99c to GenoPro 2007. Fortuantely, I still have copies of my files in Genopro1.99c. Is there anyway to get around this? First, delete/uninstall GenoPro 199c. Then, open the old file from 1.99c using GenoPro 2007 and you are ready to go.

| Hmm. The computers that have Genopro7 on them have never had the earlier version on them as they are both new. I installed Genopro7 on them, then put copies of the old Genopro files on those computers. So I think that I effectively did what you are suggesting (but possibly not as I am not very technically minded!)

REMFirth (3/12/2008) So I think that I effectively did what you are suggesting (but possibly not as I am not very technically minded!)Don't worry about it. I did it a couple times on my own computer. I have more than 20 versions of GenoPro installed on my machine, and sometimes I click on the wrong icon, or don't realize I am using an old version of GenoPro to open a file created by a recent update. I also have a couple custom versions for special customers, making things a bit more complicated .

| I am not sure if that's what I meant. I have a PC at home with Genopro7 and which has never had any other version on it. So there's no old version to uninstall. My computer at work has the earlier version, but not the later one (or indeed any other version.) We haven't been allowed to download stuff at work for about 6 years hence the ancient nature of my version there! The files on my PC at home are ones that were created in the old version. Apologies if I am being dense! If it's not fixable c'est la vie...

REMFirth (3/12/2008) If it's not fixable c'est la vie... It can be fixed. Just make you sure you install GenoPro 2007 on both computers and things will go well.
