I am not sure whether this should be included as '
Help
', 'How to' or 'Wish List' but here it is.
I wanted to select all of the records into a table. In my case it was to sort on age to identify where I needed to change the record of
death
; none of my ancestors went beyond 100, at least to my knowledge. You might also want to copy the data into a
spreadsheet
.
When I tried to use '*' to select all records it was not recognised. I got round it by using 'i' and ticking the 'IDs' box; this also provided a quick way of counting the number of
individuals
in the
tree
.
Is there a reason why '*' on its own is not recognised as a
search
item? I know that a spreadsheet is limited in the number of rows but that is a separate issue

I am not sure to understand your question. If you want to select
all
records in the
genealogy
tree, use the Table Layout (Ctrl+T) rather than the Find command. The Table Layout does display all the records in a table format, while the Find Result does display the
search result
in a table format. You can use the Copy & Paste mechanism to transfer the data from the table to a spreadsheet or word processor.

Sorry I had missed Ctrl-T. As I said this might need to be a Help item rather than anything else. However if others forget, as I did, and go to the Find mechanism - which lets face it is the normal way of selection - they might try the same thing as I did.
It is a widespread convention that '*' is a wild card. GenoPro recognises 'h*' in searches but does not understand '*' on its own. I have just tried again and it says "No match found".
Is there an underlying reason for this? Stop searches running out perhaps.

Nope. I will check out the code. The wildcard * should return all results.
