Recently I upgraded from Windows 98SE on a 4GB hard drive to now Windows XP home on a 80GB drive. I transferred all my files across by saving to CD-RW and could not get GenoPro to run at all. I then downloaded latest version which works fine BUT I cannot open any of my old .gno files. I get this message..."Unable to read from storage c:\Program Files\GenoPro\ourtree.gno. The storage header is invalid. GenoPro cannot continue because the data format is unknown."

Needless to say I do NOT want to rebuild my family tree with pictures...

Is there anything I can do?

Leonie

You have to install the same GenoPro version you had on the old computer. copying the files is not enough.

Second - try to open the .gno file from the application (which you said is working just fine). If the file is on the CD as you said, then GenoPro is looking for it in the wrong directory (the path you gave - c:\...). Use File > Open (or the icon to open a file) and Browse to the current location of your file.

You are tryng to open a .gno file using GenoPro 1.x. Install the latest Beta from http://www.genopro.com/beta/ and try again.  The Beta will display a different error message (if any) with the exact Beta you need to open the .gno file.

For extra details, please read how to re-create .xml file from .gno file
