When upgrading the Flemish version of the dictionary.xml file from .5 to .6, I looked for a tool to help me with this. After trying several ones, I decided to write my own xml differences tool. This tool will only list the differences between two dictionary.xml files, you cannot use it to update the dictionary file itself. I still prefer Notepad to do the actual update. Feel free to download from http://www.floating-point.net/ancestry/genopro/ (Look in the table for the utility line and fetch the xmldiff.zip file.) This ZIP file contains a utility called "FPS XMLdiff.exe". I had to zip it because my web server does not like upper case characters nor spaces in file names. The screen interface allows you to visualize matches, additions, removals and changes from one version to the other. It also contains a hard-copy function (see Tools/Save Differences) that produces a text file with the display options you selected. The tool comes as is. I cannot promise you that it is bug free, nor can I offer you 24 x 7 support for enhancements. If needed, drop me a line in this forum, I'll see what I can do. Oh yes, I nearly forgot, the FPS (Floating Point Software) prefix was only added to differentiate this tool from the thousand or so others that can probably be found on the Internet. Enjoy, Nand

Version 1.6 of the FPS XMLdiff utility provides UTF-8 support for the on screen display. Differences should now be more readable in languages requiring special characters. Let me know if it works or not. My tests were limited to simple accented characters like é è ç à Version 1.6 can be downloaded from http://www.floating-point.net/ancestry/genopro/ (Look in the table for the utility line and fetch the xmldiff.zip file.) The ZIP file contains both the utility called "FPS XMLdiff.exe" and a the documentation called "FPS XMLdiff User's Guide.pdf".

Version 1.7 (bug fix) · The current file can be “opened with” the utility. Right-hand mouse click on the file in Windows Explorer, select “open with …” and add “FPS XmlDiff” to the list of programs. · The default file and folder specifications in the open files dialog now depends on either the current folder or the folder of the first file specified. · Added a check on identical file specifications. · Added a check on missing file specifications. · Fixed an endless loop bug due to multiple comment markers on the same line. The "xmldiff.zip" ZIP file contains both the "FPS XMLdiff.exe" utility and the "FPS XMLdiff User's Guide.pdf" documentation. It can be downloaded from http://www.floating-point.net/ancestry/genopro/ as usual.
