At this point my trial subscription has expired. However, before I purchase this item, I need to know if and how it can be changed to pdf or a Word doc. Is this possible?

You can copy & paste your family tree into Word.  Press Ctrl+A (to select all objects), Ctrl+C (to copy to the clipboard).  Go to Word and press Ctrl+V to paste.  You may also export your family tree to a metafile (Menu -> File -> Export Metafile).  A metafile is like a JPEG however with a transparent background. The metafile may be inserted the same way you insert an image to your Word document.

To create a PDF, you need a "PDF Writer".  I use the free PDF writer named "Cute PDF Writer".   A PDF is created by "printing" your family tree into a PDF, so you need to use Menu -> File -> Print and select your PDF writer.  Just before "printing", the PDF writer will ask you the filename to save your PDF.
