How do you identify someone as gay or lesbian? Also, how do you identify someone who was married for years, then became homosexual?

You need to use the Genogram dialog. From the Tools menu, select Options, and make sure the option Display Genogram Dialog is checked. When you double-click on an individual, you will see the Genogram tab, and the Sexual Orientation. |

I followed these directions but I do not have "Display Genogram Dialog" as an option. What should I do?

I must have hit something that worked - I now have the sexual orientation and Transgender options. However, I believe Non-Binary needs to be added as an option. A client I am currently working with suggested I use an octagon as the symbol for her Non-binary child.

Is there an easy way to get the new symbols to appear in one of the Legends?
I tweaked a couple of people in a tree, and put in a New Legend (Y), and looked at all the other options as well, but didn't see an explanation for what's what. I did a quick google, but couldn't find any rules for drawing these. In the diagram below, I added 2 sons and then 2 daughters, and then made: - 1st son, Man to Woman
- 2nd son, Woman to Man
- 1st daughter, Man to Woman
- 2nd daughter, Woman to Man
I don't know what the rules are, but what appears doesn't look right to me (ie, Male ... transitioned from Man to Woman = one Square inside the other?, similarly a Woman transitioned from Woman to Man = one Circle inside another?) |
