I would like a bit of assistance with the Narrative Report

Hi,

I would like to make a small change in the Education Details paragraph of the Narrative Report, but have not found out yet with my usual clumsy "hit and miss" method where to make the change and which change. It concerns the sentence:

He passed all examinations in October 1967 and achieved a pass

I would like to generate the following sentence

He passed all examinations and achieved a pass in October 1967 (or " on 1 October 1967" or "in 1967")

There are several lines of code which looked to me like they were the right place and also several {digit} parameters which to me could have been the date, but the few change attempts I made did not produce any results, so obviously I had not hit the correct place.
In order to shorten my process path, I would be grateful if I could be told the correct line of code and which parameter to change in my "Dictionary.xml". Thank you in advance.

Kind regards

Roland

Hi Roland,
You could change the Dictionary phrase PhEducation to
<PhEducation T="{  }{\U}{0}[ [{?8}[{?3}has attended][{!}attends]][{?!8}attended][ {9h}][{1h}]][ {2}][{?3} ]{!3}[{?!3} for {4}][ {5}][ in {6h}].  [{?7|12}{\U}{10}[{?12}{?!8} {12h}[{?7^12} and][ {7h}]{11}]. ]" />

to achieve the phrase you wanted. However as given you are stating the same thing twice. 'Passed all examinations' and 'achieved a pass' are essentially the same. Perhaps it would be better to alter the Graduation text under EducationTerminiation to 'graduated' from 'passed examinations' so that we can have

He graduated in October 1967 and achieved a pass.

Hi Ron,

This is what I was looking for. I had already made some changes in the wording so that the meaning of my sentence is slightly different compared to the english version.
Now that I know, thanks to your help, where to make the change, I replaced

<PhEducation
         T="{  }{\U}{0}[ [{?8}suit][{!}a suivi][, {2},][ {5}][[{?!5} des cours] {6h}][ - {9h}][{1h}][{?1|9} -]][{?3} {3}][{!}pendant {4}]. [{?7|12}{\U}{10}[{?12}{?!8} {12h}{11}[{?7} et]][ {7h}]. ]" />

with

<PhEducation
         T="{  }{\U}{0}[ [{?8}suit][{!}a suivi][, {2},][ {5}][[{?!5} des cours] {6h}][ - {9h}][{1h}][{?1|9} -]][{?3} {3}][{!}pendant {4}]. [{?7|12}{\U}{10}[{?12}{?!8} {12h}[{?7} et]][ {7h}{11}]. ]" />

to generate

Il a passé tous les examens et a obtenu son diplôme en octobre 1967

Loosely translated:

He passed all the exams ( = credits) and received his diploma ( = graduated) in October 1967

which is exacly what I wished to generate. It is not always redundant to pass all the exams and to obtain the diploma as, in some academic requisites, it often involves defending a dissertation on an original research assignment.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Kind regards

Roland
